L4D is pretty good

I think Final Fantasy XI has a very nice community. Of course you get the occasional jack ass, but they are a pretty dedicated nice group of people.

Well there's always idiots in every game....most people in mw2 either swear at me,call me a noob or insult me because my voice hasnt broken....so mw2 is not my favourite on-line game

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

To be honest, I've never run into more than a few dicks in the 2 years I've been playing Mabinogi.

Friendly, and polite people in online gaming?

The most they can do is say something verbal to you... Words don't hurt, just have some self confidence in yourself, and/or ignore it...  No sympathy for those who cannot see that words are not worth getting emotional over, nor the people that waste time to insult someone else over game skill, screw both of you.

Sure, I'll be friendly, so long as the other person permits.

With that said, in regards to most polite online communities... Why does it matter?  It's only words.  Either take shots back or ignore.  Something else... Remember that most people talk trash because it adds to the fun of the game.  Other people because they have no self confidence and talk down on others to make them feel like they're above someone, and through video games, is the only way they're able to do so.  And, if for any other reason they're insulting someone... screw them. And, screw the person that's too weak minded to listen to words of someone else, true or not.

I would the best experience I ever had with respect to the total community, was Earth & Beyond. Closed on 2004 though, so it's long gone. I can't remember a single negative player in that game.

When I think of polite online gaming community, I think of Barren Realms Elite on my local BBS in the early 90s. There were rules of engagement which were rigorously enforced by the most powerful nations to make sure things stayed balanced and fun for everybody.

Crap, I can't even remember the name of that BBS anymore.

I've yet to see a decent online gaming community...I think it's a myth. Communities keep on getting worse and worse with more and more impolite teens/pre-teens playing...

I've played a few MMOs, atleast you don't see as much crying kids but no one talks, everyone just rushes around collecting grass, grinding, etc.
