etuoyo said: madskills y do you have a Toshiba HD DVD player sitting next to Xbox HD DVD add on? And you sure do buy loads of 360 games. If you are a typical 360 owner I can see why their software sales are so high. |
@ Etuoyo
Good morning! Yeah, I have both - but there's a very, very funny story with it. About a month ago, on these very forums, a few of us - Twestern, KN, Goosegaws and myself were talking about the HD format wars. At the time, Best Buy was offering the Heroes boxset with the Xbox add-on ... plus the 5-HD DVD offer, the King Kong pack-in HD DVD AND 2 free HD DVDs in-store. All for $179. Twestern got it, so I was like 'Lemme try ...'
Then, a couple weeks later - maybe a week, Wal-Mart was going to sell the HD A2 for $99, but Best Buy countered and offered it a day earlier. And they still had the free HD DVD special in place, so I was like 'Dang ... it's just $100' and bought an open-box special. While I did get the two free HD DVDs, I didn't get the free mail-ins because it didn't have a box. I may still try to see if I could land it.
As far as the games, some of them I have bought, but in the past 4-5 months, I have been reviewing games for my newspaper. Now, I am doing my own blog, dukecitygamerz.com, and trying to get traction behind that. I started getting a few, then landing bigger ones. I have bought like 20 of the 360 games. The rest are from reviews I did. Trust me, journalists are starving artists!!!!
The crazy thing is ... whenever a game is sent out from a PR firm/dev/publisher, it counts as a sale.

@ Art of Angels
I don't. I review them, then throw them on the shelf. I revisit some of them, but lately, the more games that get sent for review, the less I have a chance to sit back and play them after reviewing them. It's still awesome when I get a break to play ...

Tell me about it. I first started buying movies on Blu-Ray before I even got my HDTV, after having seen plenty of anecdotal reviews about just how awesome HD is, and knowing we'd get an HDTV soon enough soon enough. When I first popped in PotC2after we got the new tv a month ago, I was floored! Especially with the crazy MotionFlow set on high on the XBR4. My only beef with the motionflow is that it artifacts a lot around the edges on fast moving seens. The worst I've seen so far is when they pan across the Rohirrim army in LotR: RotK, just before they go charging into the orcs at the battle of the Pelennor Fields. It also artifacts a lot in the first fight scene between harry and Peter in SM3, and not just around teh edges, but all over the screen. I have quite a love/hate relationship with the motionflow. The artifacting bugs the crap out of my eyes, yet things look so boring without it turned on, because it truly makes things look 3D, and when I only set it to low, it still has some artifacting but without the 3D effect. What are your thoughts on it?

Ehhh the artifacting doesn't bug me too much. I notice it though. I think the Sony Bravia is one of the best HDTVs on the market and it really handles it well compared to other big screens. Basically, the fact that it artifacts from time to time is outweighed by the sheer quality I feel like I am receiving from it. Im happy with my purchase. =]

Was going to get a 360 elite last year but wife vetoed the decision. Would be permitted to get one next month for my birthday (or 360 and PS3 if I chose). Not too sure though. Don't have enough time these days to play games to really justify getting another console (let alone two). And with Pro Evolution Wii coming out soon, then Mario Kart and then Smash Bros (maybe during Christmas of 2010 the way Nintendo loves to screw with Wii owners) I really don't see how I could have spare time to play anything else anytime soon. So think I will go for an £800 surround speaker package I have had my eyes on instead.
