Because Microsoft's done an amazing job of selling the industry media and press on it already, with almost nothing substantial outside a concept, a name and some messy tech demos. The press keeps parroting it's inevitable success, and other sectors of the industry start to believe it...

The main issue is the possibilities that Natal creates. The success of Just Dance / Wii Fit / EA Active shows that there is a market for a more active style of games. I am interested in seeing how well the possibilities line up with success. Developers need to remember that games need to be fun to sell.

On the cost side Natal will be inexpensive and easily bundled with a slim (cost cut) xbox 360. The cost will drive adoption rates quite heavily. For myself, I am mostly interested in the voice recognition and face recognition technology that is included in Natal.

Oh, I agree with all this.  And I think Natal will shift quite a healthy amount of units.

I just think it's worth pointing out the massive difference in industry response to Natal versus Move, or even Wii really (which still has head-in-the-sand press, analysts and developers predicting it's inevitable downfall... any day now).  And most of that comes down to Microsoft's amazing stagecraft imo.  Sony and Nintendo could learn a thing or two from them...

There is no doubt Microsoft is good at publicity. The area hidden from view is just how good Microsoft is at developer relations. Most developers seemed to be happy with Microsoft after planning and producing products for them.

On the other hand, Nintendo has dominated this generation(& already won), but yet can not seem to get developers on board. The potential for profit on the Wii is huge but the number of developers chasing it is pretty low for the installed base. I am not sure why this disparity exists.

I think these are the same issue.  Public and developer relations almost go hand in hand in a sense.

Microsoft's core strength is in leveraging support (tools, media, etc), Nintendo's is in leveraging innovation (interface, design, etc).  Both are always seemingly playing catch up on the other end though.

Because it's really Microsoft's last hope to end this gen in 2nd. If Natal fails the X360 will fail from then till the end of the gen, if Natal is a success then the X360 may stay in second. So a lot of X360 fans are hoping it'll do well.

The wii is successful because it makes playing games easier, Natal makes it even easier. Therefore more people can play and are interested.

How does using Natal make thing's easier?, from what we've seen so far Natal relies on more effort being used to make the game fun.

On Topic: Natal has received plenty of marketing before release, it's known in the casual American market and bring's an interesting concept to gaming (sshh about Eye Toy). These are reasons why it 'may' be succesful, no one know's what could happen. No one has seen any decent software for it, no one know's if all the previous bug's it had have now been fixed and no one know's it's price. It could very well be the greatest thing to happen to gaming, it could be a complete flop or it could fall in the middle and become the Xbox Eye-toy. Wait untill E3.

A standard xbox controller has 16 buttons and 2 joysticks.

Natal has your body.

If you look at other forms of entertainment they dont require skill, and if they do very little.

Listening to music

Watching a movie

Reading a book

All of those are simple and require no skill.

That look's like alot more effort than reading a book

Yes just as easy as designating a button for each arm + leg to hit a few balls flying your way, right?  Sigh........if you honestly think it takes too much effort to play that, I suggest you stay away from 90% of all sports.

I didn't say it required too much effort, just more effort than would be needed to press a few button's and read a book.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

It will be huge! How often do we get to hit big red balls!

or make "pew pew pew" with our fingers...

Seriously, I really doubt Natal will be huge, since it's basically an EyeToy.

You're overestimating the power of marketing and money, or Microsoft former success.

If money and marketing were enough to make a bad product succeed every time, then Zune and Vista wouldn't have flopped hard like they did.

Cause they need a miracle for the 360 to beat the PS3 and they see Natal as that miracle, and with 360 being American the US media is heavily backing Natal.

Pretty sure it's going to be a huge success but we won't know until launch. A lot of hate in this thread from the usual suspects, why not just relax, the Wii didn't ruin your gaming experience and neither will Natal even if it does sell like crack.

Because M$ has the funding to market this thing to no end. You vastly underestimate marketing.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Ahh, cause M$ says so. It seems they say something these days and the plebs follow. Remember what they said about Blu-ray flopping and that DDL would be taking over, right about...now?

I for one don't think it will be a huge success... Heck, IMHO I think it will be a nightmare to develop for, be buggy and be limited to certain genres only. But hey, at least they are breaking their " Let's just copy other companys" mold, which they are inFAMOUS for.
