Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 5th year of Xbox 360 : The Unreal Engine Effect.

I have never liked UE3. I think it mostly looks like garbage. They pulled it off in Bioshock, because it's so dark in that game. Mass Effect makes good use of it. Gears of War does a good job of hiding a lot of its flaws.

But I still have a grudge against UE3. The first PC games that came out on it couldn't even do anti aliasing, and there is just no excuse for that. Anti aliasing is a must have as of about 2004. My opinion--UE3 is easy to develop with and makes it easier to crank out a game.

gekko i hope you realize every single fps game released to date has simple stupid AIs. Halo's is definitely one of the more tolerable though unless ofc reach's end up being worse then halo 3's which i doubt.

I'm glad the 360 still has lots of life left into it.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Welcome back and thanks selnor for an informative and positive thread on upcoming 360 developments. Attracting the usual crowd I see.

So the half-dozen wyvern flying up my scaly butt every time I try to fireball their commander are stupid? Good to know, otherwise I could be more dead. Right, you meant the AIs farther back in larger crowds. Just trying to lighten things up but by all means 'off with his head', carry on.

Hope AA and AI promise is fulfilled for Wake and Reach or I will barely enjoy them. UE3 is dead long live......whatever.

i have not played F.E.A.R. but have played the other 2 and while they are good compared to the likes of resistance 2, or mw2, they are still ridiculously predictable and simple, equivalent to playing a 5 year old with autoaim. Even besides from being hard to accomplish smart ai from a technical point of view, a fps with actual good ai gunmen would probably be impossible to complete unless enemies come at you one or two at a time or you have a ridiculous amount of health or teammates.

@enragedorange

I don't know, imo Halo games have never been hardcore FPS...hence they have pretty much dumbed-down AIs.... sure, Halo Reach will have its share of good AIs now and then, but a sheer number of them on screen? It's Microsoft, remember? they won't complicate things for their sacred established franchise. Hell, they had Halo Wars made a RTS for dummies for christ's sake...

Or a true console RTS... either way works...

It's easy to pick out the best looking PS3 games and say that games like Halo Reach will never come close, but in all honesty; how many of those graphically "bar-setting" PS3 games are sandbox games?
Also, how's it possible that the 360's already been pushed to its maximum when increasingly better looking multiplatform games continue to come out for it?
And if Crysis can run on it, why would anyone think that Gears of War or UT3 were the games to reach the 360s maximum potential(I am aware that Crysis 2 is also coming out for the PS3...I've been fapping to the 'Beauty, Speed, Interaction' trailer for quite some time now).

this is very biased who wrote it ? it draws conclusions from nothing and assumptions.

Check out my game about moles ^

I don't care about the EDRam chip. It's just another marketing scheme like Super FX. Who cares?

Alan Wake doesn't look that good.
