Now you seem to be in the loop for Pony fiction, does there exist a fic like the following? Spike hordes the possessions of the mane six after they died (under the assumption that MLP dragons are quasi-immortal), which is what causes him to grow (and manages to prevent himself from growing until then), and uses this as a manner of "fixing" dragon-kind, by having dragons grow by inheriting the possessions of their loved ones instead of by stealing stuff.

To my knowledge, that sort of fic does not yet exist. The idea of greed-induced growth has been surprisingly overlooked in the pony fandom.

That said, the teenage dragons from that one episode suggest that Spike's growth was irregular, possibly induced by his unique living conditions and environment. Basically, as the only dragon in the area, he is in charge of his hoard by default, and his inner magic artificially grows him to defend it. Note how "adult" Spike lacked wings and communication skills like other mature dragons have.

That said, there are a lot of stories that discuss the subject of an older Spike and his horde in general. I'll throw a couple of links below to some of the better received examples.

Just so we don't derail that thread too much... I've heard that the 4th gen was the worst, but why is that? And why do you prefer Black over White? I do appreciate the advice, especially since getting ALL the games would add up pretty quickly.

The D/P/P generation introduced relatively few new Pokemon, has a long grind at some points, has a lackluster presentation, recycles too much content from earlier games, and the Sinnoh region is just boring compared to even places like Kanto. The only aspect of the game that truly stands out is the core gameplay, which trumps all previous games, but has since been outshone by Black and White.

Basically, for Generation 4, they improved the core gameplay at the expense of everything else. Generation 5 made a few slight adjustments in the gameplay for the better, but is mostly a better game due to story, design, and presentation.

As for why I prefer Black to White... the reasons are a bit silly actually. I think Black's exclusive Pokemon are cooler, I find Black's almost identical storyline to make a bit more sense in context to the slightly different situations, and I think that the futuristic themes in the late game of Black provide better contrast between humanity and Pokemon than the natural themes found towards the end of White. Honestly, if White costs just $1 less, get it.

The good news is, HeartGold and SoulSilver are both very good, IMO. Definately the biggest packages overall, and the best bang for your buck.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion as a casual Pokefreak. I mostly play the games for the singleplayer, so I wouldn't know if one version of a game is better for online or something. Here's just one guy's thoughts.

To be honest, I'm one of those gen 1 snobs who thinks that the first generation pokemon are the best... I prefer their design and names. But it sounds like everything else wasn't so good either in gen 4, so Platinum it is!

Are any of the starters for gen4/5 really terrible?

I would have gotten HG/SS either way, honestly. I still play the originals from time to time. Gen 1 games are harder to play because of the horrible imbalances with certain moves and whatnot, but Gen 2 was much better, and you get Johto and Kanto.

And since I'm not really into multiplayer either, your advice is probably more relevant than someone who is. Thanks for the advice! It's good to know before I just go out and buy everything without knowing what I'm getting. ^_^

In terms of being awesome, all of the starters in gens 4 and 5 are pretty nice. In terms of being valuable members of the party... Snivy is kind of useless in Black/White. It has the misfortune of being a Grass Pokemon in a region full of bugs and flying types instead of water types.
