Switch time and time again keeps smashing it in software sales with a relatively small user base. I've been thinking about your overlap theory ever since you brought it up. You've made a believer out of me.
If you want to know more about Bloodborne's story, let me know. It's something I took a deep interest in when the game came out, and did a lot of personal research on to piece together. And *that* is why I like it. It's the difference between buying a painting and buying a puzzle. They both display the same image, but one demands you earn it.
This video covers a lot of the "plotholes".
Since I actually like discussing these things, and find you more reasonable my reply to you:
One thing, people do factor the price of gas mileage and in general energy intake in making a car purchase, or maybe everyone I know does, oh well. Same with features and options of the car.
That aside, in regards to value, that is up to beholder, but realistically PC accomplishes a lot more than the ps4 does, thus the costs associated with it obviously would be higher, if it was not than you might run into some problems. Value is also on the ps4 side as well, otherwise everyone would be still gaming on last generation and it would not be one of the more successful consoles, and potentially the most profitable console to date. The bias of the op is apparent, since honestly this is a night and day comparison.
Also I did mention hidden costs on all fronts, not one front (PC has hidden costs as well). I can think many hidden costs on both sides. Opportunity costs, waiting period on certain games. You also have different variety of options and choices.
I think it has a lot to do with the decline of the Xbox Brand and how they basically shot themselves in the foot at the beginning of this generation. Plus I imagine one of the huge draws being Local Multiplayer being taken out (might have been not in reach) hurt a couple of my friends interest in it.

If you really want to be honest the right price is actually $299. However, its clear that at $399 the current gen consoles did better in 2013-2016 than last gen consoles did at that same price. I think the market is read for...

They're getting really desperate to sell it as something revolutionary when it's a mere simple hardware upgrade. Nothing wrong with a straight upgrade, but I can't take all the marketing bullcrap. errrrr....... ok. Info from sony system architect himself. Demonstration of an 18x...
