Hey. Thanks for giving me a long meaty reply on the Nier thing - that's exactly what I was hoping for! Unfortunately i've only been able to spend a hot minute replying to comments this week. I'll try to do it later today. Sorry.

No problem. Don't worry about it though. Take your time. I know it be like that some times.

I'm about 27 hours into Suikoden 1. This game is such a hidden gem! The pacing is excellent. As soon as I get a little tired of combat I find a new town, talk to people, recruit a few characters, and try a few more out. Unity attacks, and combining magic are great. Six party members equals lots of customization. The story hits so damned hard. You wind up killing your own friggin Dad! And the Soul Eater is cursed in such a tragic way! So far this game is a 9/10 despite being 20 years old. If Suikoden I is this good WTF is Suikoden II going to be like?

Oh, glad to hear you're enjoying it. I've talked to, or seen comments form, a good number of Suikoden fans over the years, and Suikoden 2 is almost unanimously liked notably more than the first. The character artwork is also notably improved. So hopefully that means you have a lot more to enjoy ahead of you. Recruiting so many characters and expanding your headquarters is a pretty unique mechanic in a game like this, and I love how the castle is filled with familiar faces rather than just nameless NPC's. It gives it a much more personal feel. Many characters also bring something unique to the castle, and this feature is expanded further in Suikoden 2. By the way, since you mentioned you are past that event with Teo, did you manage to keep Pahn alive during his duel against Teo? It's possible to get Pahn permanently killed here if you fail the duel.

on 12 February 2019

Yep. Kept Pahn alive. Lost Grimeo though. Even tried to warp out of the dungeon. I did get his Axe though, so I'm guessing there's something to do with that later on.

on 12 February 2019

Ok good, then you're on the right track. My Pahn died the first time I played, but luckily I realized soon after, and I had an extra save file right before that fight.

on 12 February 2019

I'm playing it on my PS2 Slim, and can't make more than one save file. How do you do that?

on 12 February 2019

Argh! I failed to recruit Odessa's Dad in time. Beat the game though. I'll post a review in the next few days. Starting my second playthrough now.

on 13 February 2019

That's what I used as well. I checked on Youtube and it looks like you should have multiple save slots. Here's a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/0kQFyI3.jpg

on 13 February 2019

Thanks. I figured out how to get more save files. Here's my review of the game http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=234020&page=2#23

Enjoying P5? (or have beaten it)

Enjoying it A LOT. But I've only beaten the first dungeon so far, and I'm 23 hours in. About to enter the second dungeon soon.

on 10 May 2017

Was you a fan of the series already?

on 10 May 2017

Yes. I started with Persona 3, then FES and P4. But as much as I loved those games, and I considered them in my top 10 or maybe even top 5 favorite games or Jrpgs, I never felt like they were THE best games I ever played. Ever since I played Suikoden 2 back in 2001, no other game has challenged it.But now while I'm playing P5, for the first time, I am thinking about it. That maybe this will be the game that I like more than any other I've played before. It depends on how it turns out, I'm still very early on. But it is interesting that I started feeling that way for the first time now after 16 years. o.o

on 11 May 2017

I know the feeling, mine hasn't changed since 1999, though I don't see any game changing it as well, Persona included, lol.

Persona 3 is top 10 material IMO, Persona 4 is a great game but not as high as that.
Hopefully I enjoy P5 as much as you are to the point where I rank it better than P3 and it might crack my top 5, so far this gen only Nioh is up to the task.

on 11 May 2017

I didn't expect Persona 5 to challenge my current #1 game either. But you know what they say? "You'll never see it comiiiiiiiing~!"

on 11 May 2017

Ehh, LoD is likely going to me my fav game forever, it's just too special to me, but sure, if it someone manages to overcome TLoU (top 2) I would love it.
Also don't see it happening but won't rule it out.

on 11 May 2017

Not saying it will for you or me. But Sui 2 is also a very special game for me. Not just as a game, but because of the people I met through it, and it defined an important period of my life that way. Friends, career, what countries I've been to, etc, it would all have been different if my friend hadn't shown me Suikoden pictures from a certain forum one day in 2003. As a game, it still has my favorite story and villain, which says something since I've played over a hundred jrpgs. Comparing them to Suikoden 2 usually didn't even come to mind. But when it comes to those special games, if it can happen once, it can happen twice. And I find myself wanting P5 to be that game, because why wouldn't I want to experience something even better? But we'll see how I feel when I finish the game. But the fact that I'm starting to think about it has surprised me because I knew what Persona games were like before starting P5. Btw, you haven't started playing it yet, right? I hope you manage to avoid spoilers.

on 11 May 2017

I'm pretty good at avoiding spoilers xD
Dunno if I start it next week or wait a bit more, thinking about finally getting to play Valkyria Chronicles, did you ever play it?

on 11 May 2017

I did, yeah. It's very good. Definitely worth playing. I think it was my favorite Jrpg of last generation.

on 11 May 2017

I know some people don't consider it a JRPG, but I do, so my favorite from last gen was Demon's Souls, by a landslide xP

on 11 May 2017

I never played the Souls games, mainly due to the setting. But since Nioh's setting reminds me of Onimusha, I started playing that. I'm about halfway through though. But it's been pretty good so far. Mostly the first few stages. I am feeling that it's getting a bit repetitive outside of boss fights though.Maybe if I invest points into other weapons, I'll have more fun.

on 11 May 2017

If you want the platinum you'll have to get good with all kinds of weapons, but for the main game I recommend keeping up with just too, so your skill points for that kind will rise accordingly and you'll have more skills unlocked for them.
I don't remember the game getting repetitive, if you are doing the side missions you'll come to the same places for more stuff but its main progression has a good bunch of new settings and kinds of yokais to fight with.

If you are really into atmosphere and still didn't, get Bloodborne, it's better than any Souls game on that, the game overall design is masterful.

Demon's Souls is a gem, you should try it too, even as it's already quite old, the slow paced, full of weight focus of it is the complete opposite to Bloodborne/Nioh and it still feels even better than both, it's pretty hard, really the other Souls games are kinda easy compared to Demon's, you'll need a lot of patience on your first gameplay lol, but the thing is incredible, was my favorite game the whole gen until TLoU came to finish it.

on 11 May 2017

I am doing every side quest, But even in the main story missions, I feel I am seeing the same enemies rehashed with different colors and slightly different abilities to a much larger degree than I expected. I knew that would happen, but I thought there would be more new enemies introduced alongside that than there currently are. I think after the spiders and ghosts first appeared, there have been no new enemies for quite a while now. The stages have been varied enough in design so far, but I am not feeling the same thrill when exploring them as I did for the first three stages. Part of that is due to layout. In some stages I find myself very disoriented about where I am and where I'm supposed to go, to the point where if I find a new save point, I rarely backtrack again. Like the ninja building with the revolving walls. And the snow stage, and the one before it where you had to destroy yellow crystals which revealed a hole in the ground that lead to an underground path. I never learned the layout of those stages nearly as properly as I did for the first few stages. The first stage is still my favorite one. Even though I played it to death in the beta. Because I thought it was really well designed. And I'm only using one weapon style (Katana) because I like the just-frame parry (when you block right before an enemy attack hits you), but I've pretty learned all the skills I want for it besides the master grade skills that are still locked, so it's about time I tried a new style.

on 11 May 2017

Don't forget all kinds of weapons have three differences fighting styles themselves because of the stances, honestly low stance is by far my favorite to sword and dual swords (specially dual swords that are faster by nature) and I would suggest that route for you as well, that way you HAVE to stick to the enemies and to dose damage because it's lower and that makes your dogding skill have to increase a lot to keep you alive, and I loved it.

on 11 May 2017

I don't use low stance much. Partially because the parry I like is mid stance only. But I do play in close range a lot. I mostly use mid stance for that. And I find that the invincibility of a forward dash through the opponent to end up behind them right as they try to attack me is one of the stronger strategies I've found. That's how I've beaten a number of bosses. Since I can cancel the attack animation into a dash if needed, I usually don't need the quickness of the low stance for close combat. But if there are a lot of yokai realms on the ground or my Ki isn't keeping up with my movement in spite of Ki pulsing, I tend to switch to a lower stance. The stances are a fun mechanic. I do feel like the Katana style seems to have less useful skills than the other stances though. That's because parrying only works on human-looking enemies.

on 11 May 2017

The stances are pretty much like in the Way of the Samurai series, which I loved and actually wanted on a Japanese theme Soul-like game, so I was already used to it, the same for parrying, lol, on WotS I was basically untouchable xD.

on 11 May 2017

Hm, I never played WotS, but looking at it, it's something I would have tried out on PS2 if I knew about it back then. I had a mod chip for my PS2 so importing or other methods to play games were simple. =p

on 11 May 2017

Really? It was pretty nice!
There are two for the PS3 as well, though those I didn't play.
The games has several endings depending on what you want to do and how you do it, and are usually pretty short, so it's also fun for some random gaming session just as well xD

on 11 May 2017

Speaking of Nioh, since you played it, perhaps you know the answer to my question about what move Okatsu is doing in the video/gif in this topic? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=228453&page=1#

on 14 May 2017

It's Quick Change, a Ninja Skill.
She was going to die, so the skill activated and she followed with a downwards cut.

on 14 May 2017

Ah, I see. Thanks. I'll make sure to learn that skill.

on 16 May 2017

No problem.
