Forums - Gaming Discussion - *Surprise!* EA Cancels Open World Star Wars Game

How is it that one company as big as EA can fail so spectacularly at making Star Wars games? Well, at least that will teach Disney to not give full control of such a big IP to a sketchy publisher.

They shouldn't have closed Lucasfilm Games, then they could make them themselves now.

Of course they did, and i have no faith that Disney will do what is right and take away the license

If they take the IP away, then they'll probably give it to another one, probably Activision or Take 2

It'll amaze me if Disney renews with EA when there contract ends. All we've gotten so far is 2 battlefront games filed with controversy. Now we have this one canceled.

Signing up with one publisher IN GENERAL is such a confusing decision to make anyways. Not to sound like a hippie, but there just seems to be way more potential with licensing out the property to multiple capable companies. More games, more titles, more of a chance for greater profit and quality. Of course licensing it out to too many people could be a problem, but still.

I'll be glad when a more interesting company takes the Star Wars games into their hands.

Why would any publisher pay for the rights to your IP f they know everyone can et access to it?

I do feel though EA is just the wrong company to make deals like these with...... if its a sports title that has a yearly release type thing then EA is perfect for stuff like that.

Psst, Disney, go talk to Nintendo...

What? Come on, you know a Retro Studios Star Wars game would be the hypest fucking thing since Metroid Prime. Cancel that dumb Star Fox racing game that's obviously going nowhere and make an open world Star Wars game that'll make Mass Effect blush.

Edit: Come to think of it, even if Disney doesn't talk to you, Nintendo, cancel Star Fox racing game and have them make the game I just described, but with Star Fox instead, since Disney's too stupid to do it with Star Wars. Han Solo was a smuggler, Boba Fett was a bounty hunter, the Star Fox team in a game like this would basically be a cross between the two, mercenaries for hire.

Now that you mention, hasn´t it been like, almost 5 fucking years since Retro´s  last game (DKTF)?....5 years and all we have are rumors.

I dont think going with EA exclusively was an inherently bad idea, but on hindsight it sure has been.

Though I do wonder if Disney is involved in some way... like they have more creative control that is derailing some aspects of the project. its not like Disney seems upset

I agree. It could've been great.

Bioware: Knights of the Old Republic 3
DICE: Battlefront (a solid one)
Petroglyph Games: Empire at War 2
Respawn Entertainment: Republic Commando 2/new IP
Visceral Games: Jedi Knight 3/new IP

Nothing of that came to be though. Such a waste. EA is too investor-driven. They're hilariously tone deaf.

How hard is it to make Rogue Squadron 4, Kotor 3, or something new along those lines that so many want?

Should talk to Sony, home of SP greatness.

Probably what they would do but it would be a huge mistake. They should license out on a game to game basis, basically have a division at Lucasfilm that hears pitches for games from anyone and decide to go ahead or not

Give it to Sony, Disney.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

EA bungles another game, shocking.
