Forza continues to dominate the racing genre, well deserved. Into the Breach is an amazing game, Subset games are so underrated, glad to see them getting something. GOTY was clearly out of RDR2 and GOW and neither game interests me.. and as for the award show, pretty boring and long.

Kinda easy to do when you are the only racing game out there and the other game is having a identity crisis.

Maybe.. this generation has offered many new Racing games and to Turn 10's credit, both there racing series are delivering and there not just flukes or out of the blue one hit wonders. Mario Kart 8 did beat FM7 or FM6 one year I cannot remember which one to be exact and Rocket League beat FH2 or something like that, but 4 out of 6 RGOTY games is very impressive in one generation and that goes unnoticed by the majority.

Next gen will be different, GT and PC will be better games and so will other racers. It be interesting to see how Forza continues to maintain there dominance next gen.

GT will only make an appearance in one year of all of next gen if they keep up their current nonsense so if Forza keeps up wiith their yearly releases then yh... they should take at least another 3/4 awards next gen.

I honestly don't think Sony cares. GT isn't going anywhere and Forza winning awards doesn't really impact their bottom line. The series did for them what it needed to, and with a new, proper, release (GT7/8/whatever), they will probably get things back on track. It is a massive brand and they need to abandon much of what went wrong with Sport.

With their new push on 1st Party content, I wouldn't even eliminate the possibility of a new racing property altogether, but considering they just took home the biggest GOTY award around, again, I don't think they're losing sleep over Forza winning best racing game in a year where they didn't even release one.

It all depends how you look at the awards. In terms of popularity or sales or quality everyone is going to have there own opinions. There are also many GOTY awards that get given out at different outlets. Weather you take The Game Awards, Gamespots, IGNs or the 200 others seriously.

The point here is that Forza has been left unchallenged through-out this entire generation and even when it had competition it basically didn't matter because it over came the challenges and basically took the racing genre on themselves. If you are a racing fan than this will peak there interests more than the other awards. Different taste for different people I suppose. I am a huge Blizzard fan yet I didn't care about OverWatch winning GOTY because OverWatch just isn't for me, instead I found other games that year I loved more.

You are probably right, maybe Sony don't care as much as they use to in the racing genre, probably the same way they don't care about the FPS genre either as GG moved away from Killzone. I feel Sony has found there strength in the 3rd person action games. Its something they do really well in, much like how Xbox do really well in the FPS and Racing market and Nintendo in the Platforming market etc. Each company has there strengths which is good for the industry.

Of course everyone has their own opinions. No different than any other awards show for stuff like movies and music. But, at the end of the day, individual opinions isn't what people are going to remember. That's why they do the VGAs in the first place. It matters.

I'm just saying that Sony isn't worried about a 'battle' with Forza when they're moving onto new horizons and have benefitted as a result. Losing an award in a genre you didn't participate in is hardly something to fret over.

I agree, what ever Sony is doing is working wonders for them and there's no need to change there methods or strategy.

Sony isn't worried over smaller awards, I am sure of that, but to be fair, you can argue that same point with Nintendo and Xbox as they didn't compete with the main GOTY award due to they didn't participate in it either. Nintendo's game (Smash Bros) releases too late to be nominated in 2018 and Xbox's next big hitter isn't due out until 2019 and didn't release a major game in 2018 aside from a racing game that oddly enough wasn't nominated for GOTY considering its one of the better reviewed games in 2018.

Forza unchallenged? Ask every serious console racer on the net..90% of them will say GT Sport is the better game. It has also sold 3 times the amount or more. It seems awards aren’t everything.

GT 7 on PS5 will also have full VR support. Turn 10 and MS better step up their game.

Pulling numbers out of your ass much? "90%". Maybe if you browse GTS specific boards, then yes, but in general that's nowhere close to being true.

Also VR will go the way of 3D and motion control, so it's really a non factor here.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Dragon Age 4 peaked my interest more than the other new game announcements. I find the Inquisition to be fun.

Unfortunately GTS wasn't nominated for 2018 RGOTY, the updates clearly weren't enough for it to be recognized this year. And please lets not compare sales to which game you think is better. If you truly think GOW is the GOTY than you need to accept that FH4 is the RGOTY at this award show. Some reviewers even say its the best car racer of all time. But hey there just opinions. I think Forza is in a good spot, I don't believe they need to step up there game much but knowing Turn 10, they will continue to step it up as its the nature of the company.

The difference is God of War winning over a juggernaut like RDR2 is a big deal. And Microsoft released 3rd person action games this year. Neither were GOTY material, which is a problem on their end. Sony had two nominees on the list. That is why I said they're not worried.

For Forza, it's like a champion boxer bragging that he beat the pants off a drunken rookie. It matters none. Ali vs Foreman? A far bigger deal. That's the difference.

Haha of course its a bigger deal seeing two big games going at it. But like you said Sony wont be losing sleep over the racing genre and same can be said for Nintendo and Xbox because they didn't release any hard hitters in 2018 while Sony did. I mean the games Xbox and Nintendo dished out weren't in the same budget range or development cycle as one of Sony's Biggest IPs and Rockstars 2nd biggest IP they own. I highly doubt Phil and Reggie walked into the Game awards thinking they could steal the show with mid tier games. (Considered none were worthy for nomination) But that's no surprise because they were never meant to be GOTY material, much like Knack and Lucky's Tails.

Basically Nintendo and Xbox didn't supply a Boxer this round. Different story if Gears 5 or Smash Bros were in there, than I am sure they would be caring more. I am not disagreeing with you, the main event was between GOW and RDR2. If Nintendo really wanted to they could have delayed Mario Odyssey for this year but chose to put it up against there own Juggernaut in Zelda BOTW last year. Because I am sure Mario Odyssey would have been a definite nominee this year. But that's there choice.

I’m not debating Horizon 4’s qualities. It did deserve to win, it’s a very good game.

GTS couldn’t be nominated this year, but that wasn’t the point. I’m not comparing it to Horizon, that’s a different genre.

When factoring GT:S vs Forza Horizon 3, based on the data available, it wasn't a shutout. In fact, they sold about the same (give or take - which actually looks much worse on GT). They lost their footing with Sport and should, in my view, forget about it.

We don’t have exact numbers, but including digital GTS is likely ahead of GT6 already. Imho GTS was always meant as something to perfect the online base and bridge the time to the next numbered release.

The biggest mistake was GT6. They released it too late when they should’ve started working on a PS4 game instead. The way MS did it. That’s the main reason they’re still behind on content for a full GT7.
