On a positive note, I see great potential in a GT7. Polyphony shouldn't let the GT Sport Assets go to waste. The graphics, and the car and track models are THE BEST in racing games, so they should just carry it over to GT7, while having some new additions too. Carry over the robust online infrastructure and FIA integration, the livery editor, scapes, circuit experience, mission challenges and whatnot.

With all these things being carried over, they can put their focus on solely one aspect: A meaty, traditional career mode, fully equipped with prize cars and championships

A GT7 done like this has the potential to be the best racing game of all time, IMO. Beating out the greats like Burnout, Forza Horizon and GT4.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Of course everyone has their own opinions. No different than any other awards show for stuff like movies and music. But, at the end of the day, individual opinions isn't what people are going to remember. That's why they do the VGAs in the first place. It matters.

I'm just saying that Sony isn't worried about a 'battle' with Forza when they're moving onto new horizons and have benefitted as a result. Losing an award in a genre you didn't participate in is hardly something to fret over.

I agree, what ever Sony is doing is working wonders for them and there's no need to change there methods or strategy.

Sony isn't worried over smaller awards, I am sure of that, but to be fair, you can argue that same point with Nintendo and Xbox as they didn't compete with the main GOTY award due to they didn't participate in it either. Nintendo's game (Smash Bros) releases too late to be nominated in 2018 and Xbox's next big hitter isn't due out until 2019 and didn't release a major game in 2018 aside from a racing game that oddly enough wasn't nominated for GOTY considering its one of the better reviewed games in 2018.

GOTY isn't a genre to participate in. Any game if good  enough can win GOTY.

All the choices there were well deserved. Speaks for the quality of games this year.

If God of War didn't win, I'm not even mad. At least there's no crap like Fortnite shit to taint the awards.

Well yes and no, GOTY isn't a genre but it is hand picked out of a bunch of games mainly in specific genres. A good example is why wasn't FH4 nominated for GOTY? Not that I am saying it will win it, but neither a fighting game or racing game goes in the GOTY category for some odd reason, probably because they have there own awards at the show, but than that makes it that they choose from specific genres for the GOTY. So its a little weird.

I am sure other GOTY sites have there own nominees and probably include the other genres but for some reason this event doesn't.

Agree, Forza Horizon 4 had no reason to not get a nomination. Instead it's spot was taken by a 2d indie.

Odd Tetris Effect wasn't nominated for best score or best audio design. That game is all about the audio design and it's sublime. Much more memorable than RDR2.

No.

You do realize that every game picked out for GOTY has their own "genre specific" awards right? Eg GOW was also nominated for "best action/adventure game".

There is no conspiracy to anything here.

So why are Beat saber and Tetris Effect not nominated for best audio design. All the nominated big name games don't do anything innovative with audio. Are PSVR and indie games not allowed to be nominated for a big category :p

At least RDR2 audio was still very good. Yet why is Spiderman in there. There was nothing memorable about the audio or music. Not that it was bad yet I literally can't remember any of the music in that game and I platinumed it. As for RDR2, we've had dynamic building music since SSX 3 and that still did it better than RDR2. What are the criteria for best audio design.

It's just odd to see the same big names appear in as many places as possible. It's all subjective I guess. I would have thought Detroit would trump something traditional as RDR2 for best art design. Detroit actually has art design, RDR2 merely models the past.

Anyway I'm happy there is at least a VR/AR category and Astrobot got acknowledged :) And sad there is no best platformer anymore.

Make no mistake I dont agree with all the awards given. Particularly in the categories you mentioned. But I feel popularity also plays an unfortunate big role in the game selection.

I think fr the game awards to ever be taken seriously in my book certain things will have to be changed.

  1. Let all released games be voted on to determine which games even get nominated by the people that have played them. The users/gamers not some panel of publications. This is because game appeal is purely subjective. As are the reviewers to and there isn't like some sort of qualification to be a reviewrer so technically their votes hold no more weight or value than the average gamer.

  2. We have PSN and XBlive and Steam IDs.. let those be used to sign into a voting site for both nominations and votes. So basically only people that have played/owned a game can vote or nominate it.
I think just those two changes alone will not just make the game awards more unique but it will make it so much better.

Yes i know other games have sub genres, however it feels the only games that get nominated for GOTY are the mainstream games. No one wants to see a fighting a Sport or a Racing game take out the main event. That would cause an uproar at the show.

I feel they avoid that by giving less popular genres there own awards. I mean if Fifa 2020 won GOTY everyone who doesn't play Fifa would be on whinging especially when you have games like RDR2 on the market. So they give out best Sport game award instead.

Its why i dont take these Award shows seriously.
