Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Splinter Cell game... not possible on PS3?

i will not buy the next splinter cell, very simple!

PLAYSTATION®3

Technically, going by specs, the PS3 can do anything the 360 can do, and in many aspects it can do those things much better. But it's all but what the developers optimize. If a developer optimized their game to fit the 360's capabilities, it might not be possible on the PS3, same on the flip side with the PS3, especially when you factor it what the Cell can do. Ubisoft is obviously being paid to say this stuff. Either that, or they're satisfied with the money they make from 360 games, so they won't put out the effort on the PS3.

Strictly speaking, I don't see why any game can only be done on one system and not the others. True it may be harder to straight port a game than last gen with the vast differences in CPU's and RAM this gen but all that means is they would need an entirely new engine. That means the specs of the 360, PS3, or Wii isn't what's stopping them, money is (for the new engine and any money from Sony, MS, Nintendo they would lose). Of course "we're cheap and/or bought off" doesn't sound as good as the "PS3/360/Wii can't handle the awesome things we're doing".

or they're just lazy and/or go for the system with the biggest user base =)

Would it kill them to mention a specific reason. Truth probably is, we suck at PS3 development. We cant even do a descent port, somthing the people at EA can (quite sad) so we will stick to development on the platform thats easier. Ubisoft has been the worst Ps3 dev, they way they are going Assasincs creed bigh be a big let down.

Where is my Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, I want them now on my PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

add me

ps3 can`t run some crappy game with average grpaphic? LOL. Just wait for MGS4, it will own SC5. =))

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

If they can't pull off that game on the PS3 and others are pulling off much better looking games it means the problem is with the developer. Look at that game then look at GTA IV

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I wouldn't say it this way. It can be easier and cheaper to use the tools for one plattform. Microsoft offers tools, that work on the Xbox 360 and on PCs, but not on the PS-3. If you want to use these tools (which make parts if the development cheaper) then a cross plattform development for the PS-3 could be more troublesome and expensive (rewrite parst of tzhe APIs, flatten the code to the PPE and try< to find code to be exported to the SPEs).

I would think the comment has more to do with the costs, not really with the technical capabilities. I don't really think that any game could really say that it was not technological possibele on the PS-3 and Xbox 360. Their technological differences are not as vast as some people think, but for programmers the technological possibiklities of the hardware are only one factor. costs are a much bigger.

The problem for the PS-3:it is advisable to write programs first for the PPE and then port parts of it to the SPEs. This PPE code can be ported easily to the Xbox 360 (complex underlying APIs would be a problem for the SPE optimization). This is not true in the opposite direction. If you don't have the underlying APIs you either have to rewrite them or rewrite the code.

Well its really the same think Factor 5 (or whoever) was saying about the PS3 likely because Sony is paying their bills and they are PS3 exclusive. These devs will swear up and down they arent biased and down talk the competition. I dont think anyone takes them seriously.

the thing is F5 said specific things that could not be done and said why they couldnt be done, they did not just say oh it cant be done cause we say so. They explained their believes, Ubisoft has not done that.

It be nice to hear what exacly ubisoft cant do on the PS3, you know back up their claims with some explenation.

really? apart from "we need the power of C3LL!!!11one" I didn't really hear any explanations why they couldn't port to the 360.

Neither developers gave a reason, mainly because most people wouldn't understand the limitations. Or the reason is Sony/Microsoft paid them lots of money.

LOL

Factor5 flat out said 360 cant run the same amount of Progressive Mesh as PS3 can, thats why Lair in its current state could not be done on 360.
