Forums - Sales - Your thoughts on Japan's hardware sale

MS needs to find a way to permanently boost sales to the 7k to 10k a week range on average. They succeeded somewhat in boosting sales with BD, lets see what a lower priced hardware and software, bundled games and games like Lost Odyssey can do with the 360 in 2008.

Sales should be remarkably close for the three consoles in Japan this week.

I suspect that Wii still has the highest demand of the big three - although things are going to luck muddled until holiday demand kicks in.  If somehow PS3 outsells Wii after the release of Wii Fit and the influx of holiday demand for the rest of 2007, then I'd be willing to ammend my position that Wii will dominate Japan.  Japanese sales rates don't really increase until late November/early December though, so we're weeks away from knowing for certain.

Wii Fit I suspect will be a slow burner - mediocre debut due to cost - but see very little weekly change in sales as people become addicted to it.

Still if Mario/Wii Fit/holiday demand can't propell Wii ahead of PS3 in Japan this holiday, then the only other titles with even the potential to provide some kind of bump would be Nights, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronciles, and Super Smash Brothers (all coming for the Japanese holidays late Nov to January).  Brawl is really the only guarenteed big Wii title for Japan until Mario Kart.

You should still admit that your Wii estimates were way too high, your PS3 estimates were a little too low, and your 360 estimates were drastically low.  Shit, the 360 sold 25% of your total estimate for two and a half months in one week. What do you expect it to do now?

Hm, looking at the front page, sales are:

40K Wii
18K 360
17K PS3

What are all you guys talking about? This looks very different from what everyone is saying.

And @leoj: very cool, your agressive behaviour with totally unproven (and now disproven?) claims. so much for any kind of integrity. well done.

First of all, PS3 40GB sold 36k first day not 31k, the 5k weren't "normal" PS3, they were black 40GB. Of course I assume that information at this link is true:

(you have to scroll to find the right news)

I think they speculating on figures for this week that have appeared as rumours on other forums.

Even if the new 40gig PS3 has outsold the Wii by 4000 units, it's hardly something to celebrate since it is 3:1 behind overall with a gap of 2.5 million.

Out of interest what is the price difference between Wii and 40gig PS3 in japan?

@kamil
Yeah and read it it says 31000 are the new 40GB PS3's, the white ones, 5000 are the older versions, black

The tepid sales of the Wii are disconcerting. I would say that the PS3, and the 360 are making a come back. Based primarily on software. I would definitely not underestimate the other two competitors. Which is what concerns me perhaps that is going to be Nintendo's problem this holiday season. Not that it hasn't been their problem in the past.

They have made no plans to increase their consoles value. No price cutting, and no new pack in offers. They have delayed one of the big three into next year, and the other two have only received modest successes. This while the other two are making wonderful offers to consumers, and have in all honesty some fantastic titles coming. While Nintendo is still milking the cow that is motion supporting mini games. Yes that is what Olympics, and Wii fit basically are.

I hope Nintendo decided to be more proactive. I know they want to squeeze every cent out of their current market that they can. However during this holiday season they really need to shut the other two down, and that is not going to happen unless they are aggressive. They have made it far too comfortable for the other two as it is.

I just see Microsoft and Sony capitalizing on fat, and happy Nintendo being over confident in their position. Thats what the hardware is telling me. Nintendo just isn't budging on their hard line stance, and its causing their console to slide. While the others are making ground. I just hope Nintendo doesn't fritter away this holiday season in the bank vault rolling in money. That would just be sad.

Looking at sales, Wii is tracking ahead of DS and pretty much on par with the PS2 at the same point in their lifetimes, so I don't thing there is any reason to worry

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

understood. However, Coke was clearly referring to the week before and wanted to discuss that sales figure.

People/fans of each console:
You don't have to make 10 new threads each time a console outsells another just for a week or a month. It's totally useless.

- PSP outold DS during the PSPLite launch for about a month, yet its again lagging behind in sales and DS will more than regain the lost ground by year's end.

- XBox360 outsold PS3 because of an exclusive good game (AC) but lags behind every other nex-gen console (including portables) by a large margin and will have a nearly non-existant hoiday period in Japan.

- Wii seriously lags behind in Japan lately, yet holds more than 70% of the console market.

Seriously, preserve your energy for after the holiday rush (after December - mid January). That's when Japan sales seriously spike and you can draw some useful conclusions.

The 40gb sold out in a matter of secounds!!
