hduser, I think you are right, pirate versions due LACK of online component got X360 with lower selling rate...

I have the PS3... this game is AWESOME! But if you count pirates, X360 will reach eazily 2m.

360 is a software beast that even the Wii with a way bigger install base can't touch (not counting the first party titles of Nintendo), but lately PS3 counterparts have been outselling the 360s even with older games.. MW2 sells almost on par weekly, Uncharted 2 outsold L4D2 and games like NFS:Shift, Batman: Arkham Asylum, FIFA 10, PES 10, TEKKEN 6, MADDEN 10, RE5, SF4 and Dead Space all either outsell their 360 counterpart weekly or already have in total..

 

360 is still selling more software in total and per console then PS3 though.

It's got nothing to do with any Sony audience preference for horror style games, which Dead Space' first month sales prove - the reason why the PS3 version got these incredible legs is either a tracking error or the PS3 version costs like a fraction of the X360 version.

I guess PS3 users have more change to spare? cheaper accessories, no PSN fee...

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

No. They are the same price.

The only thing that I could see helping it is the fact that a lot of people are buying Playstation 3 systems and need a cheap game to go with it. They know Dead Space is supposed to be a really good game and the sequel got announced so they are checking it out. With the sales on both consoles relatively low, it doesn't make it hard for the PS3 version to catch up with the 360 counterpart. 

Well yeah, I forgot to say that in general most multiplatform PS3 games have better (comparatively) legs than X360 for many reasons, and you named a couple. The sales of many PS3 multiplatforms are "catching up" so to speak.

Some of the blame for the 360 sales are piracy.

Dead Space is probably one of the greatest games of all time. I'm surprised, there must have been an offer going round. PS3 is poor when it comes to software sales, especially third party. Everybody knows thats always been the case, and even after their crazy hardware sales boost, it doesn't seem to be making a difference.
