i wish more companies followed the big pay cuts on execs method, instead of laying off staff, just imagine how those people feel right now without jobs, i got laid off too from a software company and trust me since than i can't find a job, but there you go, life is full of ups and downs

I'd imagine they're dropping dead weight. As much as jobs are needed, if a division can't churn out money/causing too many losses, it's only fair enough they get layed off.

The mark of a great company is one that can predict future sales trends and demands and knows when to bolster or cut different departments. I can guarantee you the people working at MS are far smarter than you and have legitimate reasons for cutting people. Hell companies do job cuts during times of financial nirvana and you expect them not to in a recession?!

Sorry, but the reason why they're profitable is that they know how to run a good business. If they feel that they can get the same or better performance out of using less resources, then it is pretty much the law of the markets that they do so. At the end of the day, employees are a factor of production - a cost to the company, not people, and Microsoft wants to lower its dependence on these.

Is there really a big difference between Vista and Windows 7, I'm running Vista Pro on my Labtop, and Love it, no problems easy to use does more then I even need it to do, MS is looking down the line, they may be seeing something that may cost some money, we all need jobs yes, but we also need strong stock, so we stay strong, But I do wonder how much better win 7 is from Vista. I know in the beginning Vista had issues but since its been great to me, If you have any info for me about this message me please, I am deciding weather or not to upgrade or keep what I have thanks.

It is not Bill Gates but Steve Ballmer who did this. Maybe they were redundant employees. A loss of any job is crappy but a MSFT job on a resume is a nice touch to an interviewer.

windows 7 is alot better than vista, it is faster, it takes up less HD and memory, not to mention the interface is sleeker, and is meant to be easier to use (i think it confuses alot of intermediate users who are used to the old interface, but you should get over that pretty soon).

so yes upgrade to windows 7, vista was so bad when i got it i downgraded to xp(before windows 7)

They just doing what they need to do to revamp a new business model. Maybe? lol
