Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Cursed Mountain developer shut down

Quite sad news because these guys only did one game (Cursed Mountain)

Formed in 2006, Deep Silver Vienna has already been closed down by parent company Koch Media. The developer's first - and only - title was the Wii-exclusive horror adventure Cursed Mountain. The game sold miserably.

"This decision is not easy for us," Koch said in a statement, going on to mention the current economic situation. Deep Silver Vienna's staff of 20 will be paid until March before being let go. It's hoped that some will land new positions in Koch Media.

Rumours suggest that co-founder Hannes Seifert has already secured a role at Square Enix Europe.

This's the second studio closed this year (the first one was Core Design) but don't worry gaming industry is "recession proof".

Hm, well, I guess it isn't too much of a shocker.

Cursed Mountain didn't interest me at all.

Hope those guys get new jobs, though.

Cursed Mountain as some decent graphics and art style.

too bad it is a dated game design. But I almost finished it.

Cursed Mountain could have sold more if they advertised it. This is the main problem with these developers; they release a promising game, and dont advertise it. (deadly creatures, and dead space) I didnt see any ads for this (especialy on TV)

It's sad, but when you send out a game to die without any marketing chances are you will lose some money. Losing money sometimes equal closed studio.

I wish them luck.

Advertising is expensive. They could easily spend 2-4 times the budget for the game on advertising and not make back a decent enough return to break even on their now 3-4* more expensive game.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

I didn't buy the game. this coming from me means a lot

i usually try to buy any potentially good Wii game i can get my hands on... it just wan't appealing to me. heck, i bought HotD:OK, Madworld & The Conduit but didn't get this game.

lol the game wasnt eve released here.

some distributer actually imported it. Small amounts of the game.

You dont have to advertise the hell out of it like the way Microsoft did with Halo 3(they went all out) to spread the word. Sega gave Madworld and the House of the Dead some TV ads and boom it sold decent; especialy madworld, and they made a profit.

Cursed Mountain is one of the best horror games I've played. Astounding sound design, good graphics, and a refreshing scenario choice. It was not perfect but pretty good anyway. It is sad that, being a new IP, it would never be a great seller without more marketing.
