No, I haven't played King's Bounty (yet). Did you mean Disciples?

Huh? No, the screenshot above is from Age of Wonders, a great HOMM-clone. It got a sequel but is dead now. I liked it a lot, it was like a more atmospheric HOMM (if that is possible).

Or u mean they talk Russian in the new Disciples?

Oh, I'm sorry for the confusion. I completely missed your post with the AoW screenshot. I guess I should read more than just the very last post of a thread once I posted in it.

R u familiar with many turn-based fantasty games? Did u know about AoW?

And is there any other ones on the horizon besides Disciples III?

^ King's Bounty http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=18062®ion=All (EDIT: @slimebeast).

Also, they just released an excellent Might & Magic game on DS.

Slimebeast is correct, HoMM is not dead, imo it's like Civilization: A new game every 5 years or so (and I think that's enough).

Yeah. Hopefully you are right. It just somehow feels like forever since HoMM 5 was released... It also feels like forever since last main Civilization was released =(

Kunio-Kun (River City Ransom, Crash 'N' the Boys: Street Challenge, Super Dodge Ball, Nintendo World Cup, and many more games that only came out in Japan). My favorite franchise ever. Somebody bought it all and was supposedly working on a Kunio Online game for Windows that would incorporate soccer, dodgeball, fighting, and everything all in one game, but the last I Heard was "it was going to launch in 2006." I think the series is dead, despite 1 remake for GBA and 1 for DS.

And... X-COM. Hasbro bought MicroProse (and the franchise), made the team work on 3 shitty spin-off games at once, and wanted to branch out to FPS games and action figures... and it didn't work out so well, so they fired everybody and kept the intellectual property. We will never see another X-COM again. ::weeps on his keyboard:: (Whoa, just looked it up, and Hasbro sold it to Infogrames/Atari, who sold it to Take-Two, who MIGHT... some day... make a new one. I mean... why'd they buy it? Crazy.)

Silent hill
Fear Effect
Tomb Raider
Jak
Dino Crisis

Unfortunately my favorite series a totally dead:

1 - Streets Of Rage
2 - Final Fight
3 - Rival Turf
4 - Top Gear
5 - Cadilack And Dinossaurus

Million?  They just released a new DS Kunio sports game in Japan!  I bet Aksys picks it up...

Also, GBA got 2 Kunios... the Super Dodgeball remake and the River City Ransom remake.

I heard about AoW but never played it. I played 2 HoMM games in the 90s (either I or II, not sure anymore, and III), the first Disciples and my favourite fantasy TBS game - Simtex' forgotten Master of Magic ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Magic ), but to be honest, when it comes to turn-based strategy on PC I'll always prefer and return to non-fantasy, i.e. Civilization. I heard there's a great Civ IV fantasy mod (Fall from Heaven II ?) which I'll try out one day, when I find the time.

I just read today in the latest issue of my favourite PC games magazine that it seems to be extremely unsure at the moment if Disciples 3 - which is fully developed according to Akella - will ever be released. The game development was so expensive that it seems financially too risky for potential publishers.

Master of Magic.. I think I know it from Amiga days but I might be wrong.

Sux if that's true about Disc III!! It doesnt make sense to not release it if it's fully developed already.

Btw I thought Akella only made very cheap games.

...or quite past-it? I was thinking about this, and I was alarmed at how many of mine were. For all the great games out today, it saddens me to realise how many of my favourites have been lost:

1. Pokemon - Alive

2. Gran Turismo - Alive

3. Jak and Daxter - Pretty Dead

4. Worms - Past it

5. LMA Manager - Dead

6. Theme Park - Dead

7. Wipeout - Almost certainly died (or changed forever...) with Studio Liverpool's death this week

8. Uncharted - Alive

9. Guitar Hero - Alive, but for how much longer?

10. Super Mario Galaxy - Alive, but if NSMBWii sells much more, I wonder how many SMGs we'll get in future...

How about you? (Yes, I know my top 10's an odd bunch, lol).

Studio liverpool is not dead. It's merely a restructuring.

Also anyone saying tekken is wrong. Despite it being their own opinion. Tekken 6 is unarguably the best tekken game yet. It is EPIC !

As for mine.. . Well

Command & Conquer would be one. It's been dead since westwood closed.

Heroes of might and magic ? well i thought the 5th game was good.. but too slow .. I'm not sure ubisoft is making a 6th.

Dark Messiah of might and magic. .. It's hands down the best first person game i've played where you could do melee fights. It's truly an astonishing game. Awesome. It didn't sell well though (i think ?) so hopes for a sequal are slim

Universe At War: Earth Assault. Again a truly epic game but very underrated. Microsoft and sega delaying a patch for more than a year destroyed a lot of the online part of the game.. But it's a rts that's even more adverse than starcraft and while it does have a few flaws.. It's definetly one of the best rts games of all time.

I have plenty that are still around. probably a bunch more has died off too.. Anyways.. It's how it is. .. And sometimes the franchises get resurrected and sometimes they don't. Fortunately, most games has a satisfying story and a conclusion if you play them through, so the lack of a continuation of the franchise is often not as bad as it could be.

Heroes of M&M certainly isn't dead.

Dark Messiah, I just watched a ton of 'lets play' videos of it on YouTube last night. I don't know why I skipped that game, probably cos of mediocre reviews. But it looked very good on those walk-throughs. Had bigger variation in environments than I thought too.

I'd be very surprised if Dark Messiah got a sequel.

Dark Messiah had some bugs before it's patch meaning that it didn't always work right off the bat. I didn't really have a lot of problems but sometimes it would crash upon loading (for some users) and the multiplayer was developed by someone else then the singleplayer and the fact that you didn't keep your levels when you leveled up in multiplayer was a pretty big dislike. (atleast to me and I can imagine it having dragged down the score.)

It is hands down one of the best games in my opinion though. The story is great with lots of stuff. You specialize your class and choose how to go about playing it. There are 3 or 4 different endings depending on your choises throughout the game ..

It has a diabloish (almost) tech system where you can assign points to multiple tech trees as you level up during the course of the game.

For instance. When I play it, I generally choose to be a warrior but with minor magical abilities such as healing. You could also go fully magician, or magician rogue, or just a ranger.. Or an assassin... There are a lot of options. It's a shame that so many people missed out on it. I think I've played through it 6-8 times.. This is despite the fact that I don't often play through a game more than once :p
