COD Series.

I'll do as the OP asks

CoD is popular because it gets a ton of advertising, and it's really very well-made. FPS is a popular genre on consoles nowadays, thanks mostly to Halo (though, of course, part of the credit lies with Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark). So, with millions of dollars of advertising, Activision managed to make "Call of Duty" synonymous with "first-person shooter". The first sold almost purely on word of mouth because it was so fantastic, the second built on that and tried to reach out to an even wider audience.

Its also one of the easiest FPS games to control for the average punter. They may not understand why, but 60FPS really does help make a game 'feel' smoother and easier to play. A hardcore gamer has more tolerance to adapt to more difficult control configurations which is why this factor goes over their heads. Another genre where control is of the utmost importance is racing games and they are all 60FPS and rock solid at that.

It's always nice to have a worshipper. I think axumblade was mine, once, but he quit

When people say "Call of Duty" I would assume we now mean "Modern Warfare" part. The thing that Modern Warfare did was as RPG-style leveling up, adding new skills, etc... this made for a game with multiplayer addictiveness which built a large following behind it. It executes well to, and looks good. Isn't the best in any area, but does things that build a community behind it. And it shows that long-term interest in a game isn't based on how strong the single player is.

Racing Sims and Zelda

Also the general popularity of FPS/TPS. I like the odd FPS too but this gen has gotten ridiculous.

Nothing off the top of my head. While I think something like Wii Music isn't fun to play, I can see why others do.

Edit: Actually Fallout 3 comes to mind. I don't get what people see in that game at all.

Fallout 3, Oblivion, and all MMORPGs. Can't think of any more right now.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Super Mario Kart seems like the same game being re-released for the past 18 years. In my opinion it doesn't even deserve a third of the sales the Wii version is getting.

It was the first Fallout to be completely 3D, had an awesome death sequence system..love when games make death scenes slow mo, VATS is awesome, i wish more games would adapt a system like that but it could have used more bodyparts to target, umm...it was a good game, I and alot of others enjoyed it for what it is. I dont understand why it got GOTY 2008 though, I felt that was better suited to a game like Valkyria Chronicles, it was a better RPG.

Bejeweled series. I played for a few hours and it was kind of fun but I could never put the amount of time other people do. My mother puts hours in the Facebook version and I just can't see how you can do the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over....

I just feel like I got enough of COD. The online component is amazing, but after a couple of weeks it gets boring. I would go on a couple of hours occasionally, then play something else. And TBH, the story mode isn't as exciting as I hoped. But thats just my opinion.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.
