Forums - Microsoft - Game Rankings PS3 vs. 360 Differences

Just thought I would compile a list of all the games on gamerankings that have 5 or more ratings and the games both appear on PS3 and 360.

I found it interesting if nothing else...  What do you think?

I expected the difference to be pretty high in NHL 08. The graphics are noticebly superior in the 360 version as well as the framerate. The PS3 version looks blurry for lack of a better word, it's not even remotely as crisp. My brother brought over his 40gig PS3 and we compared both version running at the same time on different inputs of my hd tv.

interesting...

I did something similar using Metacritic to look at just the top games on both consoles.  It's from mid-August so it's outdated, but here's the info:

12 of the top rated 360 games are also available on the PS3, but none were rated higher on the PS3.
23 of the top rated PS3 games are also available on the 360, and 18 were rated higher on the 360.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Take Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Vegas as an example.

On Metacritic:

Rainbow six has 68 reviews on the 360.
Rainbow six has 32 reviews on the PS3.

(Straight off that's a problem)

The 360 version has 12 sources with the word "Xbox" in the name.
The PS3 version has  6 sources with the word "PS" in the name.

The 360 version scores 89.
The PS3 version scores 86.

Are they really any different? Comparing multiplatform games using this system is unreliable and not entirely accurate.

... and score of Oblivion is the best evidence you are correct. PS3 port is obviously superior. Obviously.

Yet you forget (purposely?) the fact that the PS3 version of Oblivion came out a YEAR later.  There's no game that is going to get the same exact scores from sites 1 year later.  Games get scores based on their initial "WOW" factor.  When you have a year to sit and ponder the little things you disliked about a game or find out new things, you might give the same game a slightly lower score regardless of the small improvements on it.

You should take into consideration the decline in score after a whole year is only 1%.  There aren't many other year old ports that can pull that off, superior or not.

Oblivion is clealy better on the ps3. Not only is the framerate much improved, the load times are better as well, with a slight graphical upgrade, yet 360 version is still rated higher.. interesting..

Rescent games on the ps3/360 have mostly runned better on the ps3( excepts sports titles). Cod4, dirt, and the darkness. This is good, the ps3 is improving.

Games that have already been released on another platform generally have a lower score. RE4 got 96 on the PS2 and Gamecube, while the Wii version (praised to be the best of the lot) has only 91 on Metacritic. Oblivion on the PS3 isn't even a very clear case of advancement. I've only seen a few videos of it, but while draw distance and the outdoors looked better in general, the actual character models looked like they were zombies. Oblivion is a pretty demanding game, so I imagine different hardware will have different strengths and weaknesses running it.

I was actually expecting the PS3 to have a higher score with many multiplat games, because of the (currently) lower standards of PS3 games. Not trying to troll here, but if you look at Metacritic scores before CoD4 was released you'll find that the highest scores were 93, 89, 88, 86, 86. If you take out multiplats and go a few weeks earlier to before Ratchet was out you'll get 86, 84, 84, after which I'm not sure. Meanwhile the 360 exclusives (not counting the PC) were 96, 94, 94, 90 and something.

I'm not trying to argue any other point here other than that if you take ten guys who've only played the PS3 games, ten guys who only played the 360 games, and give the different groups a bunch of multiplat games, the PS3 gamers would naturally be more impressed by them.

The fact that this isn't happening is making me rethink the logic of this scenario. =/
