They sure can't make up their mind. Until they do the 'best games ever' polls. Then you see nearly all Dragon Quest and Pokemon games in the top 20 with only one or two Final Fantasy games.

Dragon Quest games I can understand, but why Pokemon? Pokemon, as good as they are, aren't great games, certainly not better than most FF's like you suggest.

Your opinion of a Pokemon game aside, I was pointing out what tops Japanese polls like Famitsu time and again.  And the fact is, next to Dragon Quest, Pokemon is the next most popular game series in Japan.  And if you look closely, you'd see the similarities in Pokemon and Dragon Quest (battle engine, exploration, monster collection, etc).

Can you link me another Famitsu "all time best" poll? The only one I found besides this is the 2006 one, and it puts 2 FF in the first two, and no Pokemon up till 51

http://www.next-gen.biz/features/japan-votes-all-time-top-100

That's the one I was citing.  I must have been mixing it up with another poll that was taken near the time when one of the Pokemon games came out then.

Aren't you also questioning the opinion of the people who made this poll and using your own opinion by measuring best with most popular? There are similarities between DQ and Pokemon games, but if a factual best games ever poll was ever made, without counting only popularity, do you seriously expect a pokemon game to be there? If so, then explain me why, given a recent launch of a Pokemon game in Japan, it doesn't even appear on this list?

Popularity =/= Better game

If popularity =/= better game, then why is anyone making a big deal of these polls then?  And why are you working so hard to make sure Final Fantasy is looking more popular than Pokemon?

We can go rattling on about sales and polls all day.  In the end, it will come down to opinion.  Dragon Quest and Pokemon are the two best selling (and most will say popular) RPGs in Japan.  Final Fantasy XIII is popular right now for sure, cuz it just came out.  But if this was 4 months ago, Pokemon would have been on everyones mind and probably way high in the poll, because it just released.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I'm surprised to see DQVI is the least favorite DQ game on the list...

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

That's the entire thing, I'm not working hard to make sure FF is looking more popular than pokemon. I strongly suggest you read my first comment on this thread, regarding the validity and timing of this poll.

I'm just saying that a factual poll of the best games of all time, won't be full of pokemon games in the top 20, nor will it be full of FF games, nor will it be full of DQ games.

Also you have still not answered my question. If pokemon is so popular, and it equals so much of a good game, then why isn't it on that list, when there are games there that came out much time before than the recent pokemon game? I can site a few good examples like SMT: Persona 4, MGS4, Yakuza 3, MHF:U, ToV. And this is considering out the FF games and the DQ game in that poll.

*stilll in shock over FFXIII with no towns/inn*

FFXIII... has no towns? ... or inn's? ... what the hell...

Don't act like you didn't know this already Seraphic, everyone who has done previews has said this already, even Dgc1808...

Wait... No TOWNS.  How's that work?  I mean no cities at all and such.  I mean granted I can't even remember the last time a random NPCs said anything I cared about, probably Earthbound or Chrono Trigger... but wow.

Isn't this game set in like.... an urban jungle of mechanics?

There are a few towns, mainly in Cocoon and a few villages on Pulse, but nothing in the numbers of non FFX team FF's. FFX didn't have much towns as well.

There are bound to be a few exaggerations here and there. Heck, the entire first portion of the game is done inside a city itself, so how could there be no towns :P

Yeah, that's what confused me... I remember all the fights in the previews happening in cities... vs troops.  Hence the lack of towns seemed... messed up with no NPCs or anything.

It's pretty much a carbon copy of the town and NPC incorporation in FFX. True, there isn't any memorable NPC's, the story is heavily focused on the characters and villains alone, from what I've seen on previews.

Not that it matters... I mean like I said above... seriously when was the last time those random walking around town NPC's ever had anything usefull to say?  Last time i've remembered them giving usefull hints is Chrono Trigger, last time i remember them saying anything funny/interesting was Earthbound... and last time i've seen them really fufill a mood is ff6... because most of them die and the rest of their personalities change...

Random NPCs don't even really need to talk anymore since they don't seem to ever be utilized for anything... they're just good for window dressing.

I kinda agree with you there, there hasn't been some memorable random NPC's in JRPG's for a long while. There are a few good in Persona 3/4, but nothing like in those two games. An honorable mention could also go to the NPC's in Terranigma, especially on Dark Gaia's village, I love their interactions, especially when you throw pumpkins at them

Not joking, i must have missed that on dgc's impressions and prides review. not saying anything more though since im not allowed to have an opinion on it though.

You can say anything you want about FFXIII, don't start taking it personally like you use to Seraphic ffs.

But I do find it rather odd that you always get surprised by the negatives in FFXIII, even though they have been repeated over and over again, and talked in counteless threads, threads that you have been to as well.

I was also unaware about the lack of towns in FFXIII and it's my most hyped game! LOL

It's actually a good thing if you ask me. Towns were always boring.
