3M+ Sales confirmed.
4 ≈ One
All of them don't know half of what they are talking about.
Let not this be the one time in 2010 when Pachter is correct in his prediction. Well maybe let him be partially correct on the review scores side.
But I do think people who are hoping for million+ sales might be let down a bit. Looking at all the million sellers, and those that are good games but not million sellers, I see more similarity to the good games not selling a million than games that do sell a million.
I don't know what number Quantic Dream are looking at as being successful sales. Hopefully their break even sales level will be 500K. Surely the game won't have a development budget over $30,000,000. Perhaps the marketing budget will mean it needs to sell 600-700K to make it's money back. That's still doable with good review scores.

There is one way this game could have sold like gangbusters. Have it star vampires and werewolves involved in a love triangle with a human girl and have it come out on the DS. 10 million copies within the first six months. Guaranteed!

Thats what I was thinking. Sony fans are after the wrong guy. |
Sony fans don't even pay attention to Kotaku. All they do is hate on playstation. Why should they be surprised now? lol
I agree that all this pachter hate is insane. Exspecially because most of the people hating on him have worst predictions on this site then many of his.
I have lots of doubts this game will be a commercial success. I hope the game itself lives up to the expectations many of the people here seem to have (I am skeptical on that as well, but hope to be proven wrong). What I will say for it is that at least they are experimenting and trying something new rather than following the same tired formula most developers seem to be doing now. Honestly, most games are the same thing over and over, only with different graphics or in different enviornments. That alone has me hoping this game will be a success so that more developers will be willing to experiment with game ideas and take a risk.
Can we PLEASE stop posting his random predictions?
Every time I see this guy's last name, I get this "oh boy, here we go again" feeling.
--OkeyDokey-- said: Leave Pachter alone! No, I'm being serious. Why does everyone have to say such mean things about him all the time? |
Because his predictions have been so braindead for the past several years that I'm starting to seriously wonder if he's deliberately trolling the industry. Likewise with this: I'm no PS3 fan, but even I can tell that Heavy Rain is going to be a smash hit among the PS3 fanbase. If the PS3 were a game, it would be Heavy Rain; that's how well it captures what the console is about. And the fanbase will eat it up like candy.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

The vg industry needs Heavy Rain to do more than just earn their money back. So many people on the vg sites are down on shooters or arpg's these days. I hope this helps open the door for more immersive role-playing where using your head is more important than the size of your gun. Let's hope these same people give HR some legs. It should review well on presentatin and innovation.
I expect .3 first week and 1.5m eventually. Pachter is due for another big miss.
