Because they pay no attention to what goes in the PC world and are lagging a few years behind.

Lagging a few years behind? Borderlands and Rage were announced on the same year. iD Tech 5 engine was announced much earlier, but it had no indication of what it would be, we only had a single picture at that time.
Don't make generalisations like that.

Yes and the id Tech 4 engine demo was shown a while before before Quake 4 was announced yet everyone knew what the game was.

The difference is that iD Tech 4 engine had a demo showing for the first time. iD Tech 5 engine had a private showing with only one picture of a human face wearing a straw hat that was shown to the general public. If you could make up what game that was from that picture alone, kudos to you.

That picture of a human face was from Rage, as we all now know and that tells us that the game was already well underway back then, long before anyone had seen a pixel of Borderlands so the whole "stole from Borderlands" thing is ludicrous. I bet Rage was also well underway then Fallout 3 was shown for the first time so we can probably scratch that as well.
iD are among a rare breed of developers who don't blatantly copy others and that's one of the reasons why I like them so much.

Show me a link where it said that it was from Rage specifically. Rage was officialy announced on Quakecon 2007.
You said it right, we know NOW that it was from Rage, but back then, no one did.
Never have I said that iD copied anyone, read my posts, I regard iD as being one of the best developers ever. They are in my top 5 90's PC developers, on par with 3D Realms.
