Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Polish gamers organize mass action for legal access to Live!

Welcome to the homepage of the project "We want LIVE". This project was originally meant to be an answer to the action organized by Polish department of Microsoft, which was against hard-modding of the consoles and the piracy. Because one of the representatives of Microsoft advised, that the main reason for a LIVE subscription being unavailable in Poland is due to a piracy, we've decided to react.

We would like to invite all the players from countries where Xbox Live is not available – especially our friends from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Lithuania (and other countries) to participate in that project. We hope that if our local Microsoft departments can not do anything for us, then maybe together we will be heard there, where decisions are made. And hopefully we will be able to get what we are looking for.

As the users of the original versions of the games for Xbox 360 console, we feel didn't like the fact, that somebody was insinuating that because Polish gamers use illegal software, there will be no LIVE available for us. We do not agree with suggestions, that that is the case. We do not believe that the Polish gamers are responsible for lack of LIVE in Poland. We think, that after few years of waiting for the start of that service in our country, after dozens of promises saying "wait one more month" - the time we've given is over. And that's mostly thanks to the words of Mr Jakub Mirski.

We do want to make clear one more thing - we do not sympathize with piracy. As the users of original copies of the games we think it's wrong and want to say that we are definitely against it. We do not want to advise anybody about advantages of one console over another as well. You might be able to find there some warm words about Sony Computer Entertainment Poland, which showed, that if you want - there's nothing that can stop you from giving a network service similar to the one that the rest of the world receives. Even if you are a big corporation.

What we want is to show the problem, that really exists. The issue that is ignored by the deciders of the Polish department of Microsoft. We would like to get answers for few questions, that no one in Polish game industry wanted to ask. Wanted or could.

Please remember, that this action is completely private initiative, and please treat it as it is.

I'd like to invite all gamers of countries that do not have legal access to Xbox Live! especially those in European Union to join the action and show support

(for example by adding the following facebook account to friends

http://www.facebook.com/PolskiXboxLive?ref=ts )

Currently the action has already been reported by all gaming media, several mainstream polish portals and today one of our bussiness TV channels organized special program to report about it).

Also main people from Microsoft Poland promised to send questions of gamers to Microsoft HQ and repot the answear.

But we are also investingating if we can gain support of European Union commision on the basis of discrimination of member states based on 2009 directive (which would be best case scenario as that would force MS to start the official access to Live! in all EU member countries that don't have it already - Poland, Hungary, Czech Republik, Slovakia , Greece, Romania and few others)

Those countries don't have access to Live? O_o

What a nice move by Microsoft there...

Even if there is a rampant piracy problem in those countries, how could Microsoft stomp on the real customers, and not think of it as a problem?

Microsoft Poland better keep it down or Microsoft Germany may come in and take over. :P

That joke isn't funny becouse it's partially real:

when you sign into live using for example polish embassy in London adress (few thousands of Polish gamers registered there )

you get access to content that is available in germany (which means several brutal or wwII games are blocked :

  • Call of Duty Classic
  • Doom
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
  • Wolfenstein 3D

And also some mappacks (IIRC Gears of War II).

Only way to buy and download it is by usage of VPN.

lol, sorry. What if you register a US profile? Or a Japan profile. I have a Japan live account for Japan demos and such... Works like a charm.

Country of registration doesn't matter they filter by IP.

Probably Microsoft programmers only had map from 1942 ;)
