The underdog this gen was the wii. There was a time when sony was the underdog... with the Ps1

Actually the thread was clean and everyone was talking about the poor PSP sales up until disolitude or whatever came in and started derailing the thread in the 360 favor. And then you entered the stage. Good job.

It's the technological behemoth that was expected to crush all in it's way but got bogged down in high prices, multiplat development and a runaway success by a quirky and innovative console (by Nintendo, who definitely was the underdog) I'd say a better analogy than underdog would be the titanic.

It was promised to be the ultimate achievement and runaway success, and quickly struck a berg and took on water. Fortunately for Sony, they seem to be in control of their bilge pumps, and the beast is making a tepid, but meaningful resurgence.


One might even argue all things considered, the fact the PS3 is doing what its doing now is only outshined by the Wii this generation. After the wii being godly since its release, the PS3 turning things around 3 years into its lifecycle is the most impressive thing of this gen, imo.

Perhaps, though I'd say it was only possible because of the playstation brand name. Were the PS2 not the most successful console of all time, I doubt the PS3 would have been very successful.

If a team goes into a season as the underdog and comes out flying, getting to a 10-0 start and the favorite come into the season as the favorite and gets off to a 3-7 start, would they still be the favorite halfway through the season and the underdog still be the underdog?

I think at this point in the generation we still can't act like PS3 isn't the current underdog. Yeah it didn't start that way but things changed.

Heh, is hilarious that people even argue for this stuff. Knowing the numbers its ok, but arguing/celebrating when one beat the other. . . *sigh*

Celebrate casue a far superior product is chosen by the people (people aint very bright so when they do good celebrate), so the next products after it have to be good.

IF 360 were to win this gen it would signal that rushing defective hardware to market is ok, that consumers are dumb enough to buy up shoddy hardware all the way to to market domination.  Luckly they did not.

Hell even sony learned a lesson, great hardware needs to be priced right.  To high a price is a no no for the majority of people. 

I love the fact PS3 is beating xbox2, i love the fact Toyota Honda and others sent two carmakers known for crap quality all the way to bankruptcy.  I love that Ford got its shit togehter and started making some good products, and did not ask for a Gov handout.

So

When the consumer picks the Wii....

it boggles the mind.

So why does the Wii sell so much SW (more than the PS3/360)? It can't simply be because of cheap price (it's the same as an Arcade) or "gimmick" controls ("fads" don't last this long).

Waiting to hear a funny answer.
