Mass Effect 2 does not compete with Uncharted 2 in voice-acting, it just doesn't. I guess it'a just me though, but Uncharted 2's acting is second to none. |
When I sat through the first 4 hours of Uncharted 2, at no point did I think the VA was the best. It wasnt horrible like some games tend to be, but it wasnt something I thought best yet. And of course they are in competition. So when any of the 20 + reviews literally say the words best cinematic experience ever seen. Or closest gaming has come to hollywood they dont mean Uncharted 2? Even in terms of sheer attention to detail on the storytelling, some reviewers say that Bioware are the hardest working devs out there. I dont get the game till Friday, but just the first 10 mins Ive seen of it, are more cinematic than anyhting I witnessed in Uncharted 2. In fact the 2nd most cinemtaic moment goes to ME1.
Theres a lonmg list of Reviews that say it's the best cinematic experience in gaming I can post them if you want.
I can appreciate you have an opinion. But I feel I'm sure my opinion will side with the majority once I own it on Friday.
Also on the subject of VA. Martin Sheen is ingenous. Seth Green is so good for VA in anything. Carrie Anne Moss is PERFECT for Sci Fi and Kieth David is brilliant. Also remeber there are others from the latest series of Battlestar Galactica to. No wonder Reviewers are in awe of the presentation.
Uncharted 2 has nothing on Mass Effect 2 in terms of acting. Even the first ME blew it out of the water.
BioWare are the masters when it comes to the atmosphere and stuff like that.
Uncharted 2 was a really good game. But it is very linear. It is telling you a story and it can be done in only one way. ME2 is telling a story but giving you various paths to do it in and various places to choose from. They are two totally different games in that regard.
Uncharted 2 = good. Mass Effect 2 = great in my opinion.

I do to have alot of respect for CGI. But I cant help but feel there is PS3 favouritism there to. Considering what so many different sites are saying about ME2 graphics. In particular to, it's also teaching the industry how cinamatic gaming is really done. You only have to look at the consistantcy within completely different reviews. Vistas best ever. Visuals best ever. Visuals like a blockbuster high production movie. This is not one reviewer. But at least 70% of the board have come out with statements like this. Hell I have 4 easy in my sig. |
I understand, and I certainly don't mind people preferring Mass Effect's visuals to Uncharted's. But frankly, I also can't help but feel the reviewers are just speaking in general. I mean, "One of the best" does not necessarily = the best. Neither me, nor CGI are denying it's one of the best looking games out there on consoles right now.
My opinion is the same as CGI's judging from youtube videos. Which is that the character models (or facial model, at least) is ahead of Killzone 2, but just behind Uncharted 2. Cloth detail is the same as the other 2 games. Depth of field is just the same as Uncharted 2. But animations, lighting, and environment detail are where it just lags behind, especially the lighting. Now the presentation, acting, and that other stuff are a totally different story, and once again, neither one of us are trying to downplay that area either. But the majority who did play Uncharted 2 would agree the VA is amongst the best. If you don't agree, that's fine. But it's the same case as with the visuals. We're not trying to downplay the game, but I really feel the visuals to Mass Effect 2 fall just completely short of Uncharted 2, and is ahead of Killzone 2 in certain areas, but behind in other aspects (mainly the lighting).
Hopefully, the game will be in my hands today, so I'll find out first hand today.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Sorry but lad, you clearly aren't going to change your opinion reguardless what you are told. From a technical stand point, and I really know my graphics, ME2 is nothing impressive. Little AA, poor to none post processing effects and really bad soft shadows are evident in screenshots & that cannot be argued, backed by it's performance on old GPUs. You don't want to say it, but on a technical note, graphically it is dated.
Reviews liked MW2 and that game was rediculously bad. Fact is revewiers will always praise every aspect of a game that people have preordered to please the masses.
