Darksiders is a decidedly single player title, with the player taking up the mantle of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse, whose duty it is to keep order between Heaven and Hell. This may not come as a shocker to you, but did you know Darksiders was originally intended to have four player co-operative play? The other players would have taken up arms as Death, Strife, and Fury, the remaining three Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Darksiders underwent a lot of changes over it's long 3+ year development cycle, and the scrapped multiplayer aspect was only one of several features changed or removed from the finished product. According to the latest issue of Game Informer, there were numerous other alterations, including:
-War was originally a child with a robot arm.
-The game was first titles Z.O.O.D and later Doomrunners, before settling on Darksiders.
-Three dungeouns, an underworld section, and several key characters were cut from the game. One such character was The Hunter, the last living human.
Check out the full issue of Game Informer for more. Of course, if you haven't already checked out Darksiders, I highly recommend you do that - stay tuned for the official PS3Center review, coming soon. Hopefully the axed multiplayer and these other features make it into the inevitable sequel!
