Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 2 more third party wii games fail with sales?

I don't understand how these 2 games can be considered flops when they are clearly niché titles. Sales don't lie and when compared to other games on the console, the auspicious release dates and low to moderate marketing these figures are actually an improvement over past efforts.

Since when are they niche? No More Heroes and Madworld maybe, but a game with Final Fantasy in the name and a Silent Hill game?

Final Fantasy main is a big series. The spinoffs can be niche.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Perhaps, in a way. But just having the words "Final" followed by "Fantasy" immediatly garners consumer recognition.

Why is it that almost everytime a Wii game fails which might have a shot another Wii fan says "it deserved to fail"? Good lord, be happy you're still getting something from Square Enix.

The lack of sales is quite disturbing.

Any game that lacks combat is niche. There is no way you can claim a game that involves zero combat has mass appeal. I agree on The Crystal Bearers though. That is a marketing problem I think.

First the games did not fail. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is selling about as well as Silent Hill: The Homecoming. Secondly, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles:TCB released on the 26 of December, The official release date, meaning that it was only tracked for four to five days.

However, the sales of both games reflect how quickly people call Wii games failures without ever doing any research, that's the sad thing.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Can't speak for others, but I usually reserve that for games that wouldn't do well on the HD systems. Plus not that many actually fail (since the costs were ad SD level), just fall short.

These games will likely make money, just not as much as they could have.

It's not 1999 anymore, Silent Hill is pretty much textbook case "niche" today.  The series has been on a downward sales curve since the first game even, it's basically irrelevant now.  As is the survival horror genre in general, which is probably why Resident Evil shifted out of it.

If you look at several games on Wii that have just as high or higher Metacritic scores on Wii than the Wii series games, it does appear that certain types of games don't sell as well on Wii as other types.

They try to explain away every high quality game on Wii that doesn't sell well as just being a niche title; however, prior to this gen I think a game like Carnival Games would have been considered niche on PS2 and not reached anywhere near the sales it has while a Final Fantasy game on PS2 probably would have sold much better on PS2 than CB on Wii.

I guess they types of games I enjoyed in the past and that most other people enjoyed have become niche while games like Wii Sports have become the new mainstream.

I prefer the older days.
