Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Daemon Hatfield is Sauron, and IGN is under siege

Ahh finished, very entertaining to say the least, I'm apparently a Dwarf, who knew?! (no wonder I have such an affinity for Dwarfs in WoW)

Anyway, I agree, Daemon is destructive for IGN, he causes drama every time he speaks, he pisses off a huge section of gamers, and when the people backing you up is a bunch of trolls and not the typical fans it's hurting your image.

He just needs to go, he's no longer on the IGN Nintendo team for a reason, he caught a lot of heat for his game scoop comments for a reason, and hes getting a lot of flack for this editorial for a reason. Stuff like that is why gaming journalism isn't taken seriously and won't be for some time.

Not only is this stuff the reason that gaming journalism is not taken seriously, it is also part of the reason that video games are not taken seriously.  Ironic, considering all these journalists are the ones who want video games to be considered art.

I'd also like to point out one guy on their staff who mostly goes un-noticed but seems to do a ton of their reviews. And seemingly for every RPG, 'Anime' based game and 'underrepresented' game on the Wii and DS (Little King's Story, Muramasa, Dragon Quest, etc). Its Mark Bozon. Possibly just as bad as Daemon Hatfield and certainly bases everything on his opinion.  And to top it off, he's even admitted to not being a fan of RPGs and most ANime, yet they give him nearly all games in both those fields.

Bozon is probably the best of the bunch. He's the only one who doesn't seem completely opposed to Nintendo's philosophy, unlike graphics whore, PSP fanboy and rumor monger Cassamassina, and hates-the-casuals Hatfield.

Even if he's open to their 'philosophy', his reviews are still highly opinionated and based more on how he 'feels' (his own words) than any sort of actual gameplay points.  And he seems to have little standing on the site outside of his reviews, so it doesn't really do much good if there's only one guy who's sort of standing up for Nintendo in the background playing a bunch of games that the main guys don't even care about.  Which is pretty sad to begin with.  Why does it take IGN a month to review a game like A Boy and his Blob or Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Picollo now?

*MAJOR SPOILER ALARM*

Sauron lost in the books/movies.

So Daemon is screwed!

You know, maybe it's something that exists only in some countries in Europe but in Poland we can't take any "journalist" seriously unless he actually went to some faculty where he could hone his writing/editorial skills as most of the time there is a huge difference between journalist-wannabes and educated pros articles, even if they share the same mindset on a given subject.

From the looks of it, these guys don't know the first thing about true journalism (fret not as this applies to almost every game magazine out there...sadly). Most of their editorials wouldn't be good enough for a high school newspaper to tell the truth.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

Well I really mean he's the best of a bad bunch, or the least bad, because all the others do those too. They love their opinionated and politicized (in the case of Wii Music, for example) reviews, because they view themselves as influential.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Totally.  And the sad thing is, they are influential.  But only to those who listen to them.  Which is getting less and less.  Which is why their outbusrs are getting more and more frequent and more and more radical.  And especially with the team that does the reviews for Wii and DS games, they have the smallest readership on IGN now due to their own actions and the type of gamer playing Wii and DS games.  And no, not just because they're 'casual' gamers playing Wii/DS games, but also many of those people who play Wii/DS games don't feel the need to go online and find reviews for games like Mario Galaxy or The Conduit.  They'll either just buy it or not.  So people like Matt and Bozon feel they can't get any attention unless they pull stupid stunts like these opinionated articles and call Nintendo outdated.

I'm a Half Elf?

Long read but a good one.

Pixel Art can be fun.

People are never satisfied with what they get and it won't change I guess.

As for Daemon he liked Nintendo better pre-Wii and there a lot of people like him so I don't get why people are getting so worked up about this.

I'm a Dwarfman...

Pretty good!
