Deus Ex all the way. Well, with System Shock 2 right behind it, with STALKER riding it's coattails.

Borderlands is fun but nowhere near that level.

Fallout 3 is also very good, and perhaps it's because it was too sandbox, but it just didn't manage anything like the central narrative Deus Ex or System Shock 2 had.

I suppose Bioshock was okay too, but for me it was way to light on the RPG and was basically an attempt to keep the feel of System Shock 2 but make it way more accessible and FPS orientated. They did a pretty decent job, but I felt it lost just a little too much from the RPG side.

Bioshock is a straight FPS with some customization, not a hybrid.

As for Fallout 3, it's not a hybrid because the shooter mechanics are almost unexistant. There is pretty much no twitch gameplay, and reflexes/hand-eye coordination are not needed. Headshots will not do more damage, and the AI is so pitiful that they're like sitting ducks.

Yah, I guess that's what I was trying to say.  I wish there were more full on FPS/RPG hybrids as I actually really like them, but they always seem to end up more praised that bought, which I guess gives developers pause.

To be fair, there have been almost no real hybrids. The only hybrid I can think of that was a flop was Deus Ex: Invisible Wars.

This year we will have Stalker: Call of Prypriat and Deus Ex 3, so it's not that bad.

Why is there a distinction between TPSs and FPS, as I have said, they are as great divides within the FPS genre

Because a TPS is seen from third person view, looking towards/behind or around the main character. This creates a totally different experience. FPS lets you become the character in vision as well as action. Gears lets you switch between the two points of view in battle for added effect. Mass Effect doesn't let you do what Gears does in that respect.

When does Gears let you change? Do you mean looking down the barrell? Because I am fairly certain ME 2 will let you do that

But there an arcady FPS is totally different to a more strategic game like Killzone 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas, which blends both. Gears of War, however, is quite similar to Killzone 2

Is Fallout 3 not an option?

i was just going to say that

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Erm, I don't know where this notion came from that Fallout 3 was anything but an RPG...

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

gigantic lol to everyone who voted borderlands !

How can 720p be considered HD when it looks like ugly snow grains on my 22'' screen?

Why? I've played Deus Ex and Deus Ex Invisible Wars and still felt that it didn't give me quite as good of an experience as Hellgate London.

Clearly Deus Ex is your preference, but it doesn't have to be so for everyone ;)

Don't confuse my opinion with your facts!

Anyway, Deus Ex really isn't for everyone, but when pepole talk about RPG (as in "role-playing-game") the game that fits the most is Deus Ex, since it has both quite deep costumization and an AMAZING plot that follows it, plus many ways to experience the game.

Hellgate is a game like Diablo, that while it stands as a RPG because of the costumization, it doesn't hold a candle to Deus Ex's plot.

I suggest you go reading the post that lead to my response to you, since clearly, you're the one stating for a fact that anyone who's not voting for Deus Ex should replay the game, implying that their choices aren't valid.

Oh, I enjoyed the experience that Deus Ex gave me, but since at that same time I was playing Planescape Torment, I didn't feel the plot to be all that special, nor the cause/effect system of the game which modifidied the course of the plot for the choices that you made. Yes I finished Deus Ex more than 4 times to see what all the possibilities could be, they just didn't feel all that special, especially when compared to a plot like Planescape Torment's one.

I don't judge a best game for plot alone, there's a lot of factors that I take into consideration. Plot is one of them, but gameplay, enjoyability, replayability, capacity to capture my attention and many others are my factors.

Since this is a poll, this is going to be each one's personal opinion, so that's why you implying that somehow those not voting for Deus Ex were wrong is not correct.

I think that you misinterpreted what i've said, since i've agreed with you.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

uhh, it's pretty clearly stated in the name. Third Person Shooter, and First Person Shooter. It really has nothing to do with the "genre", it just describes the way you view the world, simple as that. If you walk around in a game looking at your main character from behind and slightly above, then it's probably a TP game, if you're looking out of the main characters eyes, then it is FP.

This is a pointless poll. Deus Ex. System Shock 2 just a little behind it. Everything else is far far under both of them with STALKER in the middle between everything else and those 2.
