er... great!

We can ship our car abroad, do a timed lap, ship it back and try to beat it on GT5. Seriously... what is the point of this? Cute feauture I'll grant you but id be surprised if more than a few dozen people ever do this.

Just get the game out ffs.

so you are the new selnor in all the GTthreads.

track days happen every where around the world, if they can implement this on other cars and tracks this wouldbe a huge selling point to car guys you know the type you know nothign about.

not at all, i will get the game the day it releases..... but this is pointless imo.

C'mon you've got to think there's more to it than having to take your own car on a world tour to race all the GT tracks. It'll be more accessible than your original response supposes.

yeah, perhaps i can see if i can beat a real lewis hamilton time around silverstone in my virtual gt5 car...  like i said. pointless... I can do that already by looking at his time.  look people may like this, i am not interested. I just want the game.

Go on, tell me you don't want to beat a Simon Cowell lap time from a Top Gear show. And post your virtual race on Youtube for all to see. Well you might not want to, but plenty of others will.

Of course Simon Cowell hates to be beaten at anything, especially if the public can watch it on Youtube. So you're not likely to see a Simon Cowell ghost lap made available for download any time soon.

i think the word you're looking for is "Road Racing" not "Street Racing"

i can see it being used by some professional driver...then you dl-ing it to see if you can beat his ghost car...

It's a feature that well over 90% of all GT5 consumers won't use, but... for the small percentage of consumers that do, it is an extremely valuable feature that enables competitive or aspiring racers to break down their on-track performances at the end of a session.

And yes, something like this would be valuable even to professional racers as the information it provides is better than sector split times and video feed combined.

So no, the feature doesn't mean anything to most GT users. If you are just a gamer, this probably means you.

But no, this doesn't make it pointless in any way shape or form to those who will use it, namely the more serious drivers who use GT as a driver's tool rather than just as an entertaining game.

I'd say 99%

You say 90%... and people tell me it will sell 10million... so 1 million will use it?

I also think most professional racers are utilising more than mere sector splits and video....  much much more.

Most motorsports drivers don't have the funding nor access to the tools sponsored pro drivers have.

Where you're getting "You say 90%" is a mystery to me when what you should have read was "well over 90% of all GT5 consumers."

Lastly, the majority of competitive racers who would use lap tracking data don't have the privilege of being professional racers. There are far more amateurs than professionals, just like any competitive sport. And any amateur who would spend the money for a track day would be nuts not to want lap data like this to learn from when they're done.

You say 99% of all GT5 users won't use the feature? I say 99% of all drivers who would participate in track days or amateur track events don't have access to the tools well funded professional teams have.

I'll leave it to everyone else to decide which statement is more accurate.

is there any portuguese track like Estoril? if it has... sure i could rent this toyota and give some laps around the track and try it out... like me lots of people can also do this in a track day... if this is important? not so much but this isn't the thing that is holding the release... so is a addition welcome to make this game even more different than the others...

Here you go, you can see the datalogger in action here from GT5's tech demo.

Notice how it re-creates the hand movements and even picks up on the steering correction through the corner. Pretty neat feature and id love to see the Stig using this feature on Top Gear so we can download his ghost to try beat him in GT5.

top gear will be announcing this game feature on their show. it is inevitable and when they do, a lot of people will be trying to beat their times.

I just hope top gear upload stigs times and all the celebs they have had. if polyphony add this, this game will be epic in ways that i cannot even describe.

@KLucifer
yup, thats what i meant.

remember, this is new tech, as time goes it will become cheaper and more accessible and when it does, the number of people who can use this feature will grow.

What i want is a feature where i upload a GPS-Map to GT and it generates the roads from the map as i drive on that map wherever i want to.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

there is talk over here that top gear could be scrapped this year.

You just ruined my life... If this happens, I'll row over and kick every BBC employee in the nuts, those who don't have nuts will be kicked in the teeth. Seriously.
