Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final fantasy XIII should've remained exclusive

The author of that article needs to quit whining, for ever 1 PS3 game that was held back by the 360, there are probably a dozen PC games that were held back by the two of them.

"Dear SD Twins, thank you for holding the PC back."

Cry all you want fanboys, the game still has more content than every JRPG on the PS3/360.

I don't believe the content was edited out because of the Xbox 360 version, Square Enix probably just felt it didn't flow with the overall game well.

See, I think it was edited out for a different reason: so they have something to put in the "international" version and thus bilk Japanese gamers into paying twice for the finished product. This shameful behavior has become increasingly common at S-E, and frankly is a more likely explanation for the cuts than any platform "restrictions."

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Be the ultimate ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! Poisson Village welcomes new players.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

They WANT TO SELL 10 MILLION COPIES AND THERES NO CHANCE IN HELL.....without going muilt-platform of course and even then it's not going to happen:(

Its not the number of platforms that gets a game to such great sales. Its the quality of the game and word of mouth. Just because you are on multiple systems doesnt mean the game will be insta 10million. THe game will sell the same amount it would have sold if it stayed exclusive. That holds true for DMC, Tekken(which actually had a HUGE dropbut its still early), AND GTAIV. There is no clause saying these games will magically sell more copies then they would have any othere way. Shit, the series has been selling less and less since 7, with a spike like it not being seen again till 10. I have a feeling this game will sell on par or even less then 12. What will SE have to show for the move then?

THats highly improbable. The game is strictly story base(which is the issue in the first place). It hosts no mini games, sidequests, cities, or even NPCs to talk to. Reviewers estimate its about a 60hr story or so. By default every RPG this generation officially has more content then FFXIII. This is very sad seeing as its the biggest RPG series of all time.

Dont get me wrong tho, the story will most likely will be worth it(says the reviewers anyway).

If you want the honest truth...

This is not Squares fault - Sony backed them into a corner to force them to make it multi-plat. The Playstation 3 had abysmal sales during its debut, and for the most part of 2007-2008.

Because of that, business strategies can and will change. Square is in the business to make money. You can only make money by selling to the largest, or best (in terms of software adoption) consumers possible.

Look at their gamble with Dragon Quest IX on the Nintendo DS. Dragon Quest is one of their flagship titles, and it went to the weakest hardware of this entire generation. Yet despite that, its paid off in spades for Square, as IX has broken any and every record that could be put forth.

Likewise, Square had to go the path of ensuring sales. I've said it before: Put yourselves as the CEO of Square. Either you keep exclusivity on a console that may is having an abysmal time at hardware and software sales, or you go multi-plat and try to cover your losses with this American-made console that has sold better than the PS3.

Did it hurt the quality of XIII? That is something we will debate until the cows come home. However, as much as you want to be a fan of exclusivity, you must understand the market. Square bailed on Nintendo for economic reasons. Why should you assume they have some sort of favoritism to a company, and not favoritism to their workers and shareholders which have to eat?

Like a few other (smart) posters have said, these companies don't make games to be the most jaw-dropping, OMGFANSERVICEZ games unless they can viably state that the product will make them money. Because of that, you aren't always going to be the happiest with their decision.

And for the record, no Playstation fan has the right to complain about FINAL FANTASY jumping ship. I bought a friggin' N64 because of Final Fantasy VII. Crap happens. Deal with it, or don't buy a console until you know it has the titles that you want on it.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Who cares!!! dont both console have enough exclusives alrdy shezzz....

I'm just glad I am finally getting the game.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

If SquareEnix thinks the game will sell better as multiplatform than singleplatform, they can give the game a higher budget. That means they can make a game with more content and higher quality than they otherwise could. Higher profits will also mean higher budget (better game?) next time around.

Don't worry. Be happy.
