Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy - on track for "2nd Best Game Ever"

http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/nru7213maariogalaxyvg9.jpg

This magazine just gave Galaxy an 11 out of 10? I didn't think it was possible! But if Metacritic/Gamerankings record it as 11, the average will be closer to 98!

11!?!?!?

We need a translator, hopefully it isn't 11/100.

That 11/10 is Offical Nintendo Magazine of Italy

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

IGN gave Perfect Dark on the N64 101/100.

Scores like that are not unheard of.

Gamerankings/Metacritic have never counted the reviews of Official Nintendo Magazine of Italy. They only count the UK and USA review sources.

IGN gave it a 9.8...

Well, its definitely on track now. Its really rare to see the overall score RISE after 10 reviews have been posted.

The only score that has biased the overall score to date has been that GamesTM score (9/10). Impressive that the 2nd lowest is still 95%.

I'm 99% certain EDGE will give it a 10. They love these games - its what they try to promote.

Its only 0.3% behind OoT... surely it couldn't snatch the #1 spot... could it?

...

(the thing in its favour for position #2 - is it has to drop a full 1.0 before it hits the next title - then there is a batch of titles within a small range. So if it does drop down to #2, it could drop down to #6 pretty quickly).

...

It also shows how strong THIS year is:
- CoD4 - 95% (25 reviews)
- Mass Effect - 97% (ok, 1 review...)
- Assassins Creed - 97% (ok, 2 reviews...)

Uncharted to come (maybe?)

What a year to be a gamer :)

GT4, GTA & Brawl all to come...

Hmmm...

A very strong year this time, and certainly a very interesting race for game of the year. I'd be a bit more cautious about Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed because none of the really big sites have weighed in on that yet and generally the people who review early are the ones who really love a game and want to promote it, or else are the ones who really hate a game and want to take it down.

the thing is, I don't see it as a great year to be a gamer, so much as reviewers have become very liberal with the scores. If it wasn't for fringe scores dragging down the averages the top ten would be almost completely dominated by this gen's offerings almost entirely this year. Now it's been a good year, but a year better than 2 and half decades combined? I think not.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Well, some game scores have bothered me. Bioshock for example was scored incredibly high, but it was really a remake of System Shock 2 with better graphics/artwork but worse gameplay. My friend and I rented Call of Duty 4, but the lack of a cover system and the stupidly simplistic gameplay made us return it the next day. Not to mention we sat down and beat the campaign in 4 hours (5-6 my ass). For some reason that game is getting 9.5+ scores just for looking great.

Ratchet got incredible scores considering it was missing many features from the last R&C game such as online co-op and battles. Plus, it was 5 hours shorter, and much much easier. Super Paper Mario also seemed really over-rated. Not to mention any serious reviewer shouldn't be giving out more than a couple perfect 10s a year at the most. However, Orange Box, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, and hopefully Super Mario Galaxy all deserve great scores.
