Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No matter what you think, IGN is right.

So soon people forget how massive a risk the wii in and of itself was.

Im not sure where this hatred comes from. The wii has never tried to be something other than what it was......some people say its playing it safe, but its mostly only out of their annoyance for Wii itself. Which is fine, but the wii doesnt have an identity crisis, the users bitching about it seem to though.

Hmm a 2d Mario game with a story. Something that has never happened before. Yet they give more of a story in his 3d, and RPG outings. Which goes to what they have been saying 2d Mario is not about story.

You talking about features that are added and not added. If seems like you blaming Nintendo for things others are and not doing. Mario and Sonic online choice was made by Sega. What games that doesn't use voice chat or online is the choice of that developer.

Everything Nintendo has done fits into their own personal plan. The Wii is the family, and I have real life friends system. Something that is taken to a person's home during the holiday. Played on game night with grandparents. Like I said before people seem to want Nintendo  to change. To what they think Nintendo should be.

Nintendo is not a follower. If so the NES would have been like the Atari. The N64 would have been like the Sega Saturn, and PS1. The same for the Gamecube. Yet you think the Wii should have been like the PS3. Know your history.

Nintendo has been the same for years. They come out and tell you truth about themselves before hand.

We don't make mature games, our system will not be HD, are online uses Friend Code etc etc. Never misleading you!

Yet people act surprise like Nintendo lied. The point is they are not going to change. You should have known better. Decided! Deal with it or move on. Regardless Nintendo is going to be alright. Nintendo has proven that the make better business decision. Even if their console only sales 21 million they will survive.

Why get mad at the scorpion after it bit you. When you knew it was going to anyway.

People call Nintendo lazy. When EA, Sega, Ubisoft and many others. What been way worst.

One more point you made. The reason Mario Kart still sales is because of online. Let's see anyone consider a core gamer. Plays online games which means they bought Mario Kart Wii within the first year. Everyone now who buys Mario Kart Wii. Is a new/casual gamer. It has already been proven they don't even get online with their Wii. The don't know how too or have no interest. They buy Mario Kart Wii for the local play and the Wii Wheel. Aka having fun with people around them. Mario Kart is a core game like Call of Duty. The main reason it's a huge hit. Is because it's a bridge game. So your idea that all these new gamers. Are buying it because of online is wrong. They don't even use the feature. They bought it because of the Wii wheel experience. Also because it's fun! Which seems to be a crime now.

Just because someone is saying something different. Doesn't mean their point of view is right!

I love the thread title.

"No matter what you think, I am right."

Pretty much the essence of internet videogame forum ignorance.

2.  Adding one feature in a game to satisfy a certain number of customers does not mean that the other bigger group of customers are not satisfied.  By that I mean let's assume most owners of MK Wii don't care about online (I think this is very wrong anyway and you are in the minority).  By taking these into account and making a quality local multiplayer game that does not mean they can't also put in the effort to make a quality online element for the smaller group that do care about online.  It is lazyness to be only able to meet the needs of one group.  If the developer is putting maximum effort then both elements of the game should be strong.  That is where the lazyness view comes in.  You feel as long as they satisfy your needs then they haven't been lazy.  I feel that the game should be absolutely complete in everyway for it not to be lazyness.  Complete depends on the nature of the game of course.  Metroid Prime is a single player exploration game so it is complete without multiplayer.  Wii Sports Resort is a multiplayer game and so for me it is not complete without online.  If it had online it may be that I would have never ever played it online.  But many would.  And so by not catering for that group that is lazyness.  That lazyness to me has come about from too much success and the decision that the increased sales online would bring does not justify the extra effort.  That is like me saying at work that I am not going to get an end of year bonus for putting maximum effort into a piece of work so I am just going to do the bare minimum required.  That is lazyness without a doubt.

This definition of lazyness is just a little crazy.

You know what? Pick a game, any game. I can fry it for having missing features that I feel the game should have, and hence declare the developers were lazy.

I can think of some that would be tough, but otherwise, the vast majority of games out there have something omitted due to design decisions.

I do not agree with the OP

but one thing is true, for me nintendo or something related to the wii went wrong somewhere this gen, the wii is almost like the gamecube to me in terms of giving good games (basically not good at all thats why I own hardly ANY wii games).

I blame 3rd parties more than nintendo though.

The problem isn't even with nintendo TBH, they did space their games out well:

{hardcore on left....casual onr ight}

1. Zelda -- 2006 -- Wii sports

2. Mario -- 2007 -- Wii Fit (began in Japan this year)

3. Super Smash Bros -- 2008 -- wii Fit continued

4. NSMB Wii -- 2009 -- Wii sports resort

5. Metorid, Mario, Zelda -- 2010 -- vitality sensor

How much more can they really do now? But for me just those games aren't enough & wii hasn't been a good console

Rememebr this, nintendo now have to cater to casuals as well as those same casuals ARE their customers, us hardcore gamers aren't some superior race that deserve more attention.

Should I say nintendo was lazy....no that would be wrong as they have made casual & hardcore titles over the last 4 years & they have spaced them out really well imo, its 3rd parties who were lazy.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

IGN is wrong. very wrong. And they always will be.

What i think is funny is that you're telling me that i don't know what i like. That's an insult.
The wii not only has a plethora of fantastic games, it's reliable. Yes, the 360 has tons of AAA games and Live provides a very robust online experience. What good is all this, though, if I would have to send my system in to get repaired every year or so for the same problem every time (worst-case scenario)?
All 3 consoles are fantastic machines. They have their strengths and weaknesses. You aren't wrong if you think the Wii's online system could be better. I, however, couldn't care less for it. Don't ever tell me that I'm wrong for believing that. I prefer local multiplayer, and as far as anyone is concerned there should be nothing wrong with that, so just back the hell off.

You can't spell pignuts without IGN.

Yeah it sure would be nice if Nintendo did all these CRAZY AWESOME THINGS LIKE GIVE MARIO BIGGER TITS AND CUT WARIO'S HEAD OFF!!!1

Unfortunately, Nintendo, as usual, is holding up their console all by themselves with no help. So, if you're playing the role of Atlas, do you keep holding the world up by yourself, or do you go crazy and try juggling with your feet? A non-stupid Atlas (Nintendo) keeps holding the world up by themselves. They'll foot juggle again when 3rd parties pull their heads out of their asses.

It is deliciously ironic for IGN to claim that Nintendo takes no risks, because the biggest risk they took this generation was the risk of the hardcore/HD backlash that IGN's recent articles so typify. And guess what - it came true, oh how it came true. Thankfully it is a lot less influential that perhaps it could have been, because these people have been marginalised.

As for online, there are some very good reasons for Nintendo to not major on online gaming:

The first is that the WIi is predominantly a family and friends machine, it is the antidote to the stereotype of the solo gamer in the darkened back room, it is intended to bring people together and it does so. An emphasis on online play would destroy that.

The second is that local multiplayer not only encourages people to play together, it is also better for sales. When you are playing online you are only ever playing with people who already have the game, but when you play locally you are often playing with people who are new to the game, may like it and may buy a copy for themselves.

So not having an emphasis on online is good for the customers - the vast majority of Wii customers anyway - and good for Nintendo.

That sounds to me like a deliberate decision, and a good one. Not like laziness.

You are kidding right?  I am always amazed at this view of casual gamers that they are retards who don't know how to take a console online or have absolutely no interest in doing so.  Go online today with Mario Kart.  You will find players with scores of around 5000 who don't know how to navigate round the track.  They are clearly people who just got the game and have never played a Mario Kart game before.  Many with girl names.  No one is saying online is the sole reason why it is selling.  But it is a huge reason.  Take something else into account.  Mario Kart's local player will only last you a certain length of time.  Without online many many would have gotten bored and traded the game in.  However, they don't because online gives a continued experience which causes them to hang on to the game.  Without online there would have been tons of second hand Mario Kart Wiis for sale which would have reduced what we count as sales on this site and anywhere else.
