Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN Editorial: Blinded by MARIO

I cant find anything wrong with the guys logic, although i havnt played either of the mentioned games.

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Yes you can because the article is illogical. A person comparing a game the he/she likes that did not sell as well as a popular game and becoming upset about it. What's logical about that? There will always be games that do not sell as well as some popular games. Dragon Quest does not sell as well as Pokemon, Diddy kong Racing did not sell as well as Mario Kart 64, Crash Bandicoot did not sell as well as Super Mario 64 and almost no one puchased Beyond Good and Evil. This happens but do we need melt downs by game journalist about all these games that did not appeal to the masses like some other games? Instead IGN could actually do something for gamers and games instead of pointless cry baby tactics. How about highlighting overlooked gems on each system. This could get more gamers interested in these gems and actually help promote games with unique gameplay. Then maybe publishers and developers will not be so conservative. Atleast that would be more fruitful than hoping their banter will some how cause Nintendo to fail with the Wii and it's first party software.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

IGN continues to grow more out of sync with the growing gaming market.

I do actually agree with him to quite an extent. 'splosion Man is an awesome game. Original, fun, funny, well designed and great value. It's a must-own on 360.

Regardless, he and IGN are still being a bunch of whiny, cry-babies who see the market shifting away from their sense of what it should be and not able to understand why.

Also, they've always had the idea that they have some massive influence over the gaming industry.  Matt even said as much a few years ago.  Their pride has been damaged because people aren't taking their word as gospel truth.  Despite Matt's smear campaign against Wii Music, people bought it.  And despite Matt's tears of semen, people are eating up NSMBW.

What it comes down to is that their own arrogance has gotten the best of them and they are no longer relevant.

What a  rubbish, garbage article.

Is exactly the same as if I made an article saying everyone is blinded by Call of Duty.

And they have overlooked a supergem of the genre like The Conduit  that is way better than Modern Warfare 2 but has the disgrace of beng a new IP and beign unknown. Obviously it would be very silly to say that.

But is exactly the same as that IGN article.

Also how is that this Daemon person had Mega Man 9 as one of his favorite games of 2008, and still complain about NSMB Wii? As I'm seeing it, Capcom did the same move that Nintendo did (according to this man), that is, using nostalgia as a medium to get attention, and strap it to a really solid game, which uses graphics just in the right level. And yet he still had MM9 as one of his top 2008 games...

Because that's Capcom and not Nintendo.  When they announced MM9 and everyone was raving over it, I wondered what would happen if Nintendo did something like that.  Now I have my answer.

BTW, was there as much raving before it was announced not to be Wii exclusive?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

My memory is not that good, but I remember a lot of angst when people thought it was exclusive.

Yes, he is using Splosion Man while trying to hide what this article should be about. I kinda gree with him but not to the same raging hate extent.

I can't shake the feeling NSMBWii was about half of what I expected it to be. Barely secret levels at all, the same basic and linear design through eight worlds (a step down from 19-year old SMW). Some levels were quite innovative but a lot of them lacked what made 2D Marios great back in the 80's and 90's. The biggest trumph on NSMBWii is the nostalgic feeling, and that's it =/

"the same basic and linear design through eight worlds (a step down from 19-year old SMW)."

Multiplayer made that necessary.

"Some levels were quite innovative but a lot of them lacked what made 2D Marios great back in the 80's and 90's."

They hadn't been doing this for a while.

"The biggest trumph on NSMBWii is the nostalgic feeling, and that's it =/ "

So wrong. Just because you weren't impressed doesn't mean others just bought the game over nostalgia. That does not a sell a game as fast as this game is selling.

I'd just like to ask anyone that thinks Nintendo were being lazy by releasing NSMBWii, what was Shigsy like when you met him, seeing as you were obviously there when development was ongoing?
