What a fun fun thread. Massive quote trees, hate, caps lock, Wii hate. Good stuff.

More than a editorial, I see this guy as bitter because Splosion Man didn't sell more, and he used NSMB as the perfect scapegoat. Too bad he gives thinks opinions as facts.

He doesn't gets that there's people like me who have NEVER played NSMB on the DS? He doesn't gets that there are some people out there that don't own an Xbox 360, and thus would not play Splosion Man? He doesn't gets that there's people that actually enjoy local multiplayer more than online? And what about games needing different level of technical prowess ?

Seriously, Splosion Man looks like a great game, and while I agree that it should probably sell more (even when the developers are happy with current sales, even saying that they don't need to release it on other platforms), that doesn't means NSMBW deserves any less sales. For the people who bought it and liked it, the game is fresh, the game looks good, the game is worth the price and the game is fun. He just can't accept that? For me NSMB looks great as it is, it doesn't needs better visuals on the technical level. That would be like saying that Jimmi Hendrix would be much better if he had better pickups, an advanced multieffects and a more expensive guitar... but that's not the case. And I feel NSMBW to be really fresh on it's gameplay mechanics. I never played NSMB DS, and I'm having a blast playing this one with my girlfriend, both being huge fans of SMB1 (to the point of knowing where is EVERY SINGLE hidden block), we feel it as a totally new and different game to the past iterations... recognizing the flaws it has (the zooming camera being the main).

Also how is that this Daemon person had Mega Man 9 as one of his favorite games of 2008, and still complain about NSMB Wii? As I'm seeing it, Capcom did the same move that Nintendo did (according to this man), that is, using nostalgia as a medium to get attention, and strap it to a really solid game, which uses graphics just in the right level. And yet he still had MM9 as one of his top 2008 games...

In his mind, people like that don't exsist since everyone should think like him.

I actually don't get what's wrong with having only local multiplayer. I remember going to my friend's place to hang out and we can't find any split screen 4 player FPS games to play since most of the new games are online multiplayer games now. It makes me miss the good old 4 player Goldeneye days and how much fun we had without having online multiplayer.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

That's giving him too much credit. What I think is that he saw NPD results yesterday and had a meltdown. After the initial meltdown he ran to the nearest keyboard and furiously slammed away at the keys to type up his insecurities and hatred. This isn't about Splosionman at all. This is about taking Mario, and by extension Nintendo, down a peg or two. Splosionman is just cannon fodder for his crusade. He doesn't care about it. He just needed an underdog to go after Mario with. This is why is arguments boil down to the asinine likes of "it has more levels" and "it has online." This is a man that gets paid to write and talk about video games for a living and he can't do better than that? If he truly had reasons and conviction behind what he wrote, he would have been able to come up with some actual points. What he did was write a piece that was sloppy at best and has become nothing more but a testament of the sinking ship that is IGN.

But under the assumption that he actually was prompted to do this "editorial" based on Splosionman's sales (does anyone have any actual figures/estimates?), this would be the first time that I've seen someone blame the Wii for the failures of software that's not even on that platform. Hilarious if true.

LMAO I never thought about that, it would be hilarious.

I don't know why the "splosion man has more levels" is that big of a deal it has 50 singleplayer and 50 multiplayer levels, NSMB Wii has about 80 that can be played in MP and SP and they're longer, if he wanted a point he could have brought up LBP (which I think is like 85 levels) and about a about million user made levels all of which can be played multi or single... and they can be of various lengths

For the record, I've played Splosion Man, and it's not that great. Interesting and unique concept but gets a bit old after awhile. To compare it to a classic like NSMB Wii is an insult to NSMB Wii.

And furthermore, saying people who like the game are just "blinded" by Mario is insulting to its fans, and I take it personally. I could just as easilly turn around and say whoever wrote that article (was it Doucheman Haetfield?) is simply blinded by Microsoft and XBLA products.

An absolutely outstanding and accurate observation. I completely agree with you.

It's sad really. IGN went from n64.com, to IGN64.com, to IGN.com, and now to....this. Well, the best of luck to them. I can't really go there for any type of reliable, non-biased Nintendo news anymore. They've lost their way, permanently.

Yeah... it was Daemon, honestly I liked Splosion Man, it was one of the first games I bought on my 360, but truth be told... I still haven't beat it :\ online was kinda awkward and hard to do since it had lag, took a long time to get people together, and some of the things you had to do meant your partner had to not suck...

And about the blinded part, yeah the article is meant to get clicks and start a big shit storm, honestly the best thing to do is avoid the article, don't link to it, hell don't even talk about it and get curious people interested.

So does this guy think all the Mega Man games are of equal quality for having the same amount of robot masters?

That was some good nerd rage. Thanks for posting that.

To anybody who didn't laugh or would like to laugh more, I strongly suggest imagining Comic Book Guy speaking those words.
