What does it matter? In the end, hardcore is just a vague definition thrown around to satisfy some modern gaming Status Quo that for some reason tries to define itself as being a more "mature" or "L33T" gamer than the rest.
A gamer is a gamer, no matter what. A gamer plays whatever game he likes or that he finds entertaining. A gamer does not shy away from a game just because it's presentation isn't all real-life like or insanely over the top. A gamer can take a step back and enjoy games for what are, and give proper credit to all games that deserve it.
I for one, am a gamer that likes to play on every console and PC, equally. At this moment, i'm pretty much only playing DS and PC (DOTA and DA:Awakening). Does that make the DS a more hardcore console than the rest? Nope, because I love it, as just as I love the PS3, the Wii, the 360, the PC and the PSP.
In the end, that's what really matters. That each console gives you a satisfiable experience.
