TLS, Like Xenoblade, was a game made just for Wii. Sure, Sakaguchi could have developed ANOTHER game for PS3 or PSP or everything else, but TLS was and is Nintendo's effort to give RPG Wii fans a game, which otherwise would have never happened (yeah, DQ X, we all know it exists...). Just like Pandora's tower is their trying to give Wii gamers an action. TLS would have sold better on PS3 (just like Sports Champion would have sold better on Wii), but it wouln't have been TLS.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Is there really that much of an argument? I personally thought that its sales were fine. Not as high a I'd hoped, granted, but it'll definitely turn a profit, and will be a likely million-seller if released WW. And that's a good thing for this sorta game on the Wii!

I wouldn't say it's an arguement really, just a debate... But yaknow.

It's sold fairly well. Can't complain about it. But let's face it. If it was on the DS it would have a FAR bigger JRPG base to appeal to, and if it was n the 3DS it would be probably the best launch title on the system.

Ni No Kuni for example has sold over 500k on the DS. That's... A lot.

There's no denying that, and it may well have sold better on another console.

However, the fact is...it isn't. Mistwalker wanted to get the best graphics possible with the biggest overworld, and the Wii is perfect for that. If this game had been released, say, 2-3 years earlier, it may well have sold much, much more. But, sadly, the fanbase is no longer as large s it was, nothing can change that. If people want the game, they can always buy a Wii, after all...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

We already know that all games of the world should be released on PS3, even Mario Kart Wii would have sold a lot better if it had been released on that system.

Jokes aside I recognize that in this particular case The Last Story would have probably sold better on PS3, but come on don't be so tiresome because most of the time that's pure crap with no basis at all.

Becuase I don't think TLS would've sold 300-400k automatically on PS3?  And I think it's an exercise in futility to say a 1st party game was on the wrong console?

lol

The only original IP JRPG on PS3 that's done appreciably better on PS3 is WKC.  Literally everything else has been on par (Resonance of Fate) or appreciably worse (Nier, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Eternal Sonata, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Trinity Universe, etc).

I think people put too much stock into Sakaguchi's name.  I can't really see how TLS would've been a big seller on anything but probably PS2, 10 years ago...

None of that is relevant. Tales of Graces port has sold 50% more on the PS3 so far. Same game, half the userbase, a year late. It's painfully clear where the JRPG market lies.

Tales games also sold 50% more regularly on PSP than DS, and that's for escort spinoffs versus actual new mothership entires... I guess that makes things painfully clear where the JRPG market is, right?  Too bad about DQIX, Horii could've gotten 6m plus had he just done it on PSP? :/

You can't compare PSP and PS3 as PSP's software selling capabilities in the west are awful. In Japan, who knows maybe DQIX could have done just as well on PSP.

But that's not what the Tales ratio stated above implies.  So why would that apply to Wii/PS3 universally for JRPGs, but not DS/PSP?  What makes Tales a standard bearer for one, but not the other?
