What can we say? Wrong platform.
With proper marketing and FF creator behind it I'm pretty sure it would be 300-400k seller on PS3.
At the moment it's treading slightly above Blue Dragon:

I doubt TLS will make a profit with just around 200K-300K sales LTD because it was marketed quite a lot and had famous people in commercials, not to mention the game itself doesn't seem cheap.
They will have to release it in the west to make a profit.

Looks like my estimations weren't that bad according to the weekly preview article which says TLS should be at about 20k this week.

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

I agree. If they westernise(?) it they're looking at an easy million-seller.
However, I expect sales to be around 350k when all is said and donw in Japan

The only original IP JRPG on PS3 that's done appreciably better on PS3 is WKC. Literally everything else has been on par (Resonance of Fate) or appreciably worse (Nier, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Eternal Sonata, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Trinity Universe, etc).
I think people put too much stock into Sakaguchi's name. I can't really see how TLS would've been a big seller on anything but probably PS2, 10 years ago...
But then why can NInokuni sell half a million? And even then Ninokuni itself has underperformed.
