Forums - Gaming Discussion - [Kotaku] There Is Enough Discarded Final Fantasy XIII To Make Another Game

Square Enix spent years working on Final Fantasy XIII. The game was shown in prototype form at the E3 gaming expo in 2006, but was not finally released in Japan until December 2009.

According to the game's art director, Isamu Kamikokuryou, a substantial amount of these locations that were already running on actual development hardware ended up on the cutting room floor. How many locations? "More than enough to make another one [game]", says the art director.

For the sale of the finished product, he says, game volume and the entire work's game balance were taken into account for finished product. Square Enix was forced to make the difficult decision to cut these locations from the game.

Those assets are bound to find their way into other Square Enix titles.

Would have been nice had he given reason why these areas were cut out.

Isn't it obvious? DVD x Blu-Ray decision. Everyone knows what happened. We can only hope for Final Fantasy XV released only on Blu-ray.

Put them in Versus XIII. Done.

And show what a blu-ray exclusive game can do. If possible, release it on 2 dual layer BDs.

this is OBVIOUSLY gonna be DLC guys

FF13 DLC might be the first one I buy!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

They cutted extra gameplay to make flashy cutscenes?!

Above: still the best game of the year.

Final Fantasy Haerasis XIII (or whatever it's called) is bound to be announced someday.

This is going to end well. XD

But honestly, "game volume"? If this is indeed true, then it's pretty clear the multiplat move really hindered the game, and Xbox 360 fans need to quit giving excuses for this, saying it's fanboy bullshit.

I'm not trying to troll or anything, but I have noticed a number of people being quite vocal against the idea of the game being compromised by the multiplat move. If this news is true, how can you explain it?

Edit: Well, I suppose one way to explain it is the amount of cutscenes. But still, it's pretty clear the multiplat move made quite a number of compromises.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Chances are it was because of 360.

There can only be 2 reasons for this.

1) they couldn't fit any more than 3 dvd's into 1 X360 case. This is my bet.

2) They are going the way of EA and milking the DLC train.

Either way, this is really annoying and makes me less excited for the game. (I'm still getting it day one though. haha)
