Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rainbird, Wii owner. Wanna lend me some knowledge?

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is an amazing game for local play. It is everything the Wii promised itself to be. Fun, different, a good way to see your friends look stupid, and a great party game. The GameCube Wario Ware is also pretty amazing if you have enough GC controllers.

Dokapon Kingdom is a blast as well. It has to be one of the most fun ways to lose a friend. The game specializes in you screwing over every other "hero" in a race to save the world! Mix of Final Fantasy and Monopoly. Well really more like Munchkin the board game, but I assume you never played Munchkin.

It is hard to go wrong with Mario Party too. Same concept, but not as fun as Dokapon if ya ask me.

de Blob is the only other game I could highly recommend off the top of my head. It is like a 3D platformer, but it plays very differently. The game is essentially an interactive coloring book. It is really well done though, and easy to find on the cheap at this point.

Word of warning on Wario Land. It is massively over hyped on these forums. It is a decent enough 2D platformer, but nothing to write home about. Not even my combined love of 2D gaming, and 2D platformers could convince me to do more than rent the game.

One game that always gets overlooked, also from Climax studios (Silent Hill Shattered Memories)

Overlord Dark Legend, pikmin with demons and I personally enjoy it more than NPC pikmin.

If you can find it check out Zack and Wiki as well

@ nordlead

Okay, I might not get the DS version then xP I'll figure out what I'll do.

@ Raze

I'll give them a look, but I have heard bad things about Cursed Mountain's controls.

Wii:
Metroid Prime Trilogy (great amount of content for the price)
NSMB Wii (it's hard not to find this game fun, also great for the local multiplayer aspect)
Mario Kart Wii
Muramasa
Little King's Story (one of the most fun games on the Wii with lots of gameplay, but doesn't use motion controls)
Mario Strikers: Charged
Trauma Center

Wiiware:
Dr. Mario Online
World of Goo (very addictive, great use of motion controls)
Lost Winds

Gamecube:
Tales of Symphonia
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Pikmin
Phantasy Star Online
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Resident Evil 1, 0

Thanks, I'll check them out

Cool, I had forgotten about that one.

Sounds interesting... I'll... look into it

I actually had that on my wishlist

I'll take it into consideration

@ MaxwellGT

I've wanted to check out the Overlord controls actually. I'm not getting Zack & Wiki though, I'm not a point and click fan

Okay, here we go.

Boom Blox Bash Party - It has tons of content, local competitive and co-operative mulitplayer, and it was made for motion controls.

Grand Slam Tennis - Be prepared for a learning curve. I know you said you hate bad controls. These aren't bad, it just takes time to get used to this much fidelity. I lost every match in the first tournament I played, but now the immersive controls make it one of my favourite Wii games. Local and online multiplayer.

Cursed Mountain - Incredible sound and atmosphere and a unique motion-based combat system where you pray your enemies to death. Slow paced though, so if you need excitement, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Godfather: Blackhand Edition - Beating extortion money out of people has never been this fun! This game has the best melee combat system I've ever seen on the Wii.

Trauma Center: New Blood - Fast-paced and precise pointer action. This version of the game has the local multiplayer you crave. May want to wait for Trauma Team, though.

Tiger Woods 10 - I never thought I would buy a golf game, but man am I ever glad that I did. I didn't care much for sports games at all until the Wii came around, but the visceral satisfaction of playing with WM+ has me eager to try almost any sports game that supports it, and this is an excellent implementation. Doesn't have Grand Slam's wicked learning curve. Local and online multiplayer, once again.

As for Gamecube games, the two I've enjoyed most have been Fire Emblem and Paper Mario: TTYD. Two absolutely great RPGs.

Hmm, I suppose I'll give it a shot. I never was a tennis fan though.

How are the controls? I seem to remember hearing them not being too good.

I'll take a look, I never was much of GTA-type thoough, so I don't know how much the game is my kind of game

Trauma Center: New Blood - Fast-paced and precise pointer action. This version of the game has the local multiplayer you crave. May want to wait for Trauma Team, though.

I don't know much about the series, but what exactly do you do? Perform surgery? Play as a part in a japanese version of Scrubs?

Hmm, more sports games... I guess I'll look into it.

I'm looking into those, though I don't know what to do about Fire Emblem xP

Thanks for the help

Most of the previous recommendations you got, plus:

IF you get a Wii Balance board (by buying Wii Fit Plus...), Shaun White Snowboarding is great fun, you feel the wind going through your hair... (or maybe the new version though I haven't played it yet, supposed to be a slight improvment, its biggest fault being apparently that it hasn't improved enough on the previous game)

Link's Crossbow Training - for $30 or less you get a zapper (which can be used in some games like the Call of Duty games on the Wii) + a neat crossbow game (set in world in the style of Twilight Princess)

Rabbids Go Home (if you enjoy non stop crazy humor)

Almost forgot - Deadly Creatures (if you can find it - you alernately play as a tarantula or a scorpion, brrr.... the main criticism about the game was its length, but at bargain price it's definitely worth it)

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Get Skies of Arcadia! The developers for skies are the ones who made Valkyrie Chronicles...

Former something....

Also, coming up:
Sky Crawlers : Innocent Aces (flight game, Wiimote can be used as throttle, second player can control an additional aiming reticule on screen in the dog fights)
Fragile Dreams (beautiful atmospheric game with apparently very good implementation of the Wiimote as a flashlight, Wiimote also used as a proximity sensor to track invisible ghosts)

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Great strategy game, extremely challenging and enjoyable, awesome characters and story.

Some followup.

The controls in Cursed Mountain are fine, but like so many motion controlled games, there's a bit of a trick to them. It's a challenge sometimes to figure out exactly what kind of gesture the game developers want you to make, which contradicts the common assertion that motion controls are more intuitive than conventional gamepads. For the prayers in Cursed Mountain, you need to hold the wiimote and nunchuk up in front of you so that the buttons are facing you rather than the ceiling, then either thrust the control at the TV or sweep it in front of you as directed. Once you've got the gesture down, you should be able to perform it 90% reliably, and the game gives enough slack that you can try a gesture twice if you have to. I found it very satisfying once I got the knack of it.

Trauma Center has a story, but the game itself is mostly about the surgery. It demands that the pointer be operated with precision and speed, that the right tool be selected for the job, and careful management of the patient's vitals. Get high scores by being fast, not making any mistakes, and keeping the patient's vitals high.
