Forums - Sony Discussion - 2010 - Sony about to snap back?

I think we have to look at Sony and what they will be offering overall through their company to get a good idea how well they will do:

1) More 3D movies are being made using Sony tech (Camera's etc)
2) 3D movies making more money and cannot be pirated (sales for Sony through cinema distribution and dvd and BR)
3) With the economy recovering, the 10-15% losses from the Yen will be brought down.
4) The $30-40 on each PS3 sold will either be nullified or maybe even a slight profit will be made.
5) Increases in 3D cinemas will give a boost to 3D tech sales
6) BR user base is growing rapidly as price for BR is decreasing
7) Money made through Micheal Jackson's death through record, dvd and movie sales.
8) Big software releases next year such as; GOW3 and GT5 with possible sleeper hits like Modnation racers.
9) New ps3 compatible phones
10) PS Gem or wand making a possible impact on casual gamers.

If Stringer knows what he is doing and can get the company to market the products right etc, it may well be a great year for Sony overall as a company, but we have to look at the whole division rather than gaming on its own, only then are we taking on the debate on what he had to say in full context to what he actually said.

I however am very disappointed in Sony still not releasing any hybrid BR's which combine both; game and film in one. They spoke about it but nothing has come since. How awesome would it be to have Chronicles of Riddick the film and game one one BR! Or DMC4 with the DMC anime series etc.

@NanakiXI,

Oh well. It's probably a half table that got copied from wikipedia. I was gonna say if you could edit your post, switch to source simple mode and remove strange code.

Great interview, I like how he said that a large part of sony can benefit from the 3-d thing, I like how he's getting the divisions to work together, and to get support for the 3-d thing from other companies, like studios or whoever

NanakiXI, its probably your profile, specifically something in your SIG. You need to fix it ASAP.

I had problems quoting too, I couldn't even write, solved refreshing the forum pages and trying again to quote.

Anyone who counts Sony out, will be Disappointed, They have been on the cutting edge of Technology since the 80s. Know one stays on top forever, There are bumps in the road for everyone, a lot of this is a gamble, Sony guesses Right a lot more then wrong. With there Movie cameras, to home cameras, HD tvs, PS3 and Blu ray, they can really push 3D , and offer the best of everything. They are in a very good place for 2010 and on. It will be fun to watch.

You are in denial, NanakiXI. Lets just say I was nice enough to give you an example.

The PS3 was given the number-eight spot on PC World magazine’s list of "The Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006," where it was criticized for being "Late, Expensive, and Incompatible".[202] GamesRadar ranked the PS3 as the top item in a feature on game-related PR disasters, asking how Sony managed to "take one of the most anticipated game systems of all time and — within the space of a year — turn it into a hate object reviled by the entire internet", but added that despite its problems the system has "untapped potential".[203] Business Week summed up the general opinion by stating that it was "more impressed with what [the PlayStation 3] could do than with what it currently does".[204]

Developers have also found the machine difficult to program for. In 2007, Gabe Newell of Valve said "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think it's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted". He continued "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'". Doug Lombardi VP of Marketing for Valve

Im not backing deskpro2k3 because there was some harsh and unnecessary comments in what he says. But I strongly believe that the PS3 was bash a lot not for the right reason. It was almost a trend to speak against it, hope you understand what I mean. Something sure is that it makes no sense to place PS3 in the top 21 screwup when it is still selling really well 3 years after. Actually for the price it was, it is quite an accomplishment to have sold as much.

I couldn't have said it better myself Icyedge, I don't have the patience to explain things. I'm glad someone understands.

CPU: Ryzen 9950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 Pro

I feel we are in for a jam-packed E3 of game announcements from Sony's press conference because they haven't announced their fall lineup yet. Think of the possibilities.

Stringer basically admits in the interview that PS3 was a platform to deliver bluray. It's done that for them!. With all the associated benefits it's set Sony Electronics up for the next 10 years!. Now all the dirty work is out the way i expect to see the SCE of th PS1, PS2 eras. I expect 2010 to be mammoth.

I think the PS3 will pull into 2nd place by the end of the year..
