Forums - Sales - GI.biz: TOP Selling Games of 2010 - Halo Reach #1, FFXIII #2, GT5 #10!!

What a joke. These people should be laughed off the Internet. MW2 can't even keep up with NSMBWii but it's supposed to outsell GT5 this year? And GoW3 is somehow going to be a better seller than GT5? Bioshock and ME have proven they aren't powerhouses, but they're supposed to outsell one of the biggest names in gaming? No Nintendo. These people are utterly clueless.

There is a bit of measuring impact, they believe, based on them being sequels.  I wouldn't knock down Mass Effect though, as it is one of the top RPGs of this generation.

What about grant turismo?

What a bunch of idiots. Nintendo has 18 of the 20 best selling games of alltime, including the top 13 all to themselves. Nintendo has crossed 10 million sales 11 times this generation alone. But they can't even break into the top 10 for 2010 with their strongest Wii lineup ever?

Out of the 10 games they listed, the top 3 will end up being StarCraft 2, Call of Duty 7, and Gran Turismo 5, which they listed as #3, #4, and #10 for some reason. It's gonna be those, Halo, and a ton of DS and Wii games, including some that haven't been announced yet. Final Fantasy XIII will be at the bottom of the top 10 somewhere. Most of the other games won't be in the top 10 at all.

Odds are, the site is loaded up with professionals who have track records in other industries, who brought their skills to the videogame industry.  Such individuals don't have much of an understanding as to what will or will not sell, and end up just going what what will see to get the most marketing or have the most well-known name.  I would trust a collective polling of people on here, the likes of Demon's Souls, and Valk Chronicles factored out, for predicting sales, than I would what they came up with.

This list fails so badly that I think we should close this thread and start a new one that isn't tainted by the ridiculousness of the OP.

By the way, anyone notice Fable 3 on there? Fable 2 is right up there as one of the top selling RPGs of this generation, and they don't even list it. It is due out this year.

Fable 3 will have a hard time making the top 10 list because is is 360 only.  Other multi-platform RPGs (ME 2, FFXIII) will sell much more.

Agreed, it also releases later in the year while the biggest RPGs next year seem set for Q1.  I think it'll do well for the genre though, definitely within the top 10 RPGs for 2010.   The only RPGs I even expect to sell better next year are (in order) WOW Catacylsm, Pokemon HG/SS, FFXIII, ME2, Diablo 3 and (maybe) DQIX and KH BBS.

Fallout: New Vegas should be out this year as well,  and should outsell Fable 3.

Yeah, it might too actually.  Looking it up, turns out D3 is 2011 too. Anything else I'm forgetting?

Genre targeted lists might be fun to guesstimate at... I'll give it a try...

Top 10 RPGs for 2010 (new releases only)

  1. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (PC) Blizzard Entertainment (10m+)
  2. Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver (DS) Nintendo / Game Freak / Creatures Inc. (8m+)
  3. Final Fantasy XIII (360/PS3) Square Enix (5m+)
  4. Mass Effect 2 (360/PC) EA Games / Bioware (3m+)
  5. Fallout: New Vegas (360/PC/PS3) Bethesda Softworks / Obsidian Entertainment (2.5m+)
  6. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS) Square Enix / Level-5 (2m+)
  7. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP) Square Enix (2m+)
  8. Fable III (360) Microsoft Game Studios / Lionhead Studios (2m+)
  9. Nunokuni: The Another World (DS) Level-5 / Studio Ghibli (1.5m+)
  10. Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC) LucasArts / Bioware (1m+)

...anything else?  Maybe MH3?  FF Gaiden?  FFXIV? Golden Sun DS?  Agito/Versus (if they make it)?

Sounds about right, from all games announced. I have a feeling though, that a new GTA will be out in 2010 too, so i think that'll beat FFXIII.
