Take this with a huge grain of salt, because at certain point they even take preorders for Duke Nuke Forever

This is a strategic decision by GameStop. Pre-orders ensure GameStop/Ebgames get sales. Think about it a second, you start taking pre-orders shoppers who would usually buy their games from BestBuy/FutureShop ...etc... instead go to EBGames/GameStop because they have a gaurantee that they will get the game day one. I am the perfect example I don't usually buy games from EBGames but when ever I want a game I know will be hard to find launch day then I pre-order.
I don't know about you but I spend hundreds each year on pre-ordered games and the only place to pre-order games just happens to be EBGames and GameStop. Once in a blue moon FutureShop takes pre-orders as they did for Halo3 so I went there instead. I just wish other retailers accepted pre-orders!

Gamestop knows it'll be release in 2010 though I still think it'll be 2011. If it releases 2010. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will release spring. Metroid summer and Zelda winter.

In my Utopia we'll get Retro's game in the Fall as well.
I remember when they were taking pre-orders for Sadness.... Sad indeed

This is how i think the year will turn out, actually. Galaxy 2 in May, Other M in August, Retro Studios Project in October, ZWii in November.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Oh dear.
As I've said numerous times over, retailers get their release dates from the companies themselves. Stores, especially Gamestop who feed off reserves, like to start taking preorders as soon as their is confirmation of a release time. So when it came to Sadness or Duke Nukem Forever, both at one time had a confirmed publisher, but of course now that went away.
Try not to look at the release dates so seriously but it's not like they add them at random.
