Forums - Sony Discussion - Metal Gear Solid 4- Does anyone else think it's massively overrated?

Did I love the game? Yes I absolutely did.

Did I find the storyline enjoyable? Yes I absolutely did.

Do I like things that sometimes make little sense? For some strange reason I do.

Do I think it is the greatest PS3 game and/or one of the greatest of all time? No I absolutely do not.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

OT:

Not even a little bit..I think it might even be under-hyped for as good as the game really is. This game was an instant classic for me.

As a game? Nah. It's very functional as a game and has some great setpieces. Overrated, sure, but not massively.

As an experience and as a package? Oh yeah. No question.

Well, I liked it more than any of my games, though it has some bad things, the good greatly overshadows the bad.

On graphics I think they were great, music too(didnt have to rely on simple and catchy tunes and instead created peices that enhance the atmosphere).

The gameplay was complex for what you usually see in a game so I wouldnt call it mediocre or anything like that, besides the camouflage thing was a good demostration of technical achievment.

And many people get on board calling it a movie with little gameplay, but thats a retarded thing to say since the gameplay is actually more than the cutscenes, and I didnt find them boring.

But my analisis on the game could be unnecesarry considering people already have an opinion on this game and we should just leave each other alone, after all I consider some very loved games in these boards to be boring and bad and thus overated but you dont see me making threads on them. The game got very good reviews and good sales, being loved by many people so there must be something good in it.

personally i got to admit the gameplay was flawless, hats of to kojiam and his team, but what made this game fall short was the immensely long cut scenes which at times can take a toll on you.

Why don't you all whiners skip those cutscenes? Last time I checked, there was an option to do that...

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Personally I never found a problem with long cut-scenes, but that's just me, I like cut-scenes if they are well executed and get me enthralled in them.

Plus, it depended on how you played the game. On the Big Boss difficulty, you didn't even had time to see the cutscenes if you wanted to complete it perfectly, so it was pure game time xD

To me it goes like this... MGS > MGS 2 >>> MGS 4 > MGS 3

I absolutely hated MGS 3 due to the storyline being set in the past and due to the camera HEAVILY HINDERING the gameplay (I played Snake Eater and didn't bother with Subsistence).

MGS 4 has great graphics and the storyline is all kinds of yumminess, apart from Naomi who I loved in MGS and is just a major bitch now. The game felt very light on gameplay though. As if I spent 1 hour watching a cutscene (which I don't mind when they're as well done as they were) and then I spent 10 minutes running and shooting, since stealth was basically not needed. It felt very meh.

Well I like MGS cutscenes, usually

MGS3 was pretty great, though long-winded in a lot of places

But is skipping the cutscenes an option in one's first playthrough? Do they not sometimes impart some necessary knowledge, as in every other game in the miniseries (MGS)?

I played the orignal MG on the Nes and every single Metal Gear game since then (except the two PSP Ac!d games). I bought my PS3 the day MGS4 came out. It was my most anticipated game ever. And while it was a good game, it was the first time a Metal Gear title didn't blow me away at all. And I liked Snake's Revenge!!
