I simply cannot fathom people who say they can buy a high end complete rig for 600$, here in Norway that barely gets you a decent GPU and RAM.

I bought a new computer just last year, 1 month ago. 8000 SEK and it got me a low-high end computer. 8000 SEK translated to USD is about 1150. USD 600 wouldnt last very long here in Sweden, for that price i would get an above average Home PC

Parts must be extremely expensive in Europe then. =\

I just spent 10 minutes grabbing stuff on Newegg, and put a mid-tower with 4 GB DDR2, a tri-core Athlon II and a 5770 together for 537.93$.

Could probably shave off a few more dollars if I spent more time on it, too.

I am borrowing this thread for a small question. What would be the best choice for a budget GPU? Should be powerful enough to replace a 512mb 8800gts.

If you want cheap, I'd wait for Radeon HD 5670s to be released, or go for a 5750 maybe.

Does it make any sense to get a 5750? Is it better than 4870? Other than DX version..

i can't say for rest of Europe, but sweden has one of the highest VAT in all of Europe, a video game that would cost you USD 50 in america would here in sweden depending on store cost you between USD 70-90

5750 is about equal to 4850, and 5770 is about equal to 4870.  While consuming a lot less power, and generating less heat as well.

yeah 25% in Sweden versus 19% in Germany.

Still here is what I payed for my PC half a year ago:

Cooler Xigmatek Red Scorpion S1283 29€
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 137€
RAM Corsair DDR2-800 2x2GB 60€
GPU Radeon HD4890 1GB 189€
Power Be Quiet BQT E6-550W 79€
HDD Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB 73€
Mainboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4 140€
Drive LG GH22LS30 30€
Shipping   13€

= 750€ ($1088)

I used my old case btw.

Hey I suggest you just go with Dual channel kits, so one dual channel 2x2GB chips would be great thanks. Also the HD 5750 will have great performance and lower power usage on the next generation DX11 games even if it costs a little more now.

I agree with what moste everyone else said. Get the AMD 955 itll save you a couple bucks and can be easily overclocked. 4 GB of ram is PLENTY. There is no real performance gain in having anything more. Also get the 5770 its a little more future proof.

Long Live SHIO!
