MS: Over 39 Million Xbox 360 Consoles Around the World

Looks like Microsoft CES script got online before the conference started and Microsoft Reveals the newest xbox 360 sales numbers!


Xbox and Xbox LIVE

Ballmer looked back at 2009 and confirmed that Xbox and Xbox LIVE set new records:
   

There are now over 39 million Xbox 360 consoles around the world, and more than 500 million games have been sold.
   

Between Christmas and New Years Day, Xbox LIVE experienced its busiest week ever, adding a new member every second and a record of more than 2.2 million concurrent members online.
  

Nearly 10 million people have logged into Xbox LIVE’s nongaming applications — Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm, Sky, Canal and Zune — using their Xbox as a way to stay connected to friends and family.
   

Xbox LIVE membership is now an active community of over 20 million people.

The 500m figure for software is for Xbox and Xbox 360 combined. The Xbox 360 would need an attach rate of over 12 games per user...and the average X360 owner only has about 8.7 games as of September 2009.

Check out the video of Ballmer's Keynote to see for yourself - he says "since the launch of the first Xbox we've sold 500 million games".

They are sold around the world - to retailers. They didn't sell-through 9 million Xbox 360s since September so its clearly building off of the September 2009 shipment figure - 33.5 million.

Also, here is the video where he says "500 million since Xbox 1"  The Xbox talk starts at 1:26:56 in I believe, and the relevant statements are within two minutes of that.

i am sure the actual sold number is closer to 36 million...

Pretty sure they are clearing out inventory of old X360 skus to introduce a X360 sku with Natal and several Opera singers worth of memory for $200 for the window between E3 2010 and November 1 2010
