I think it's pretty obvious that trestres is talking about sales

Where DKC - the first one - alone - eclipses the majority of the Metroid franchise

I thought it was pretty obvious that I wasn't talking about sales. DK could sell more than Mario. Metroid is still better.

Moar Other M news plz.

...So you came into a conversation about sales to bring up game quality

You took the conversation off-topic

Why can't Nintendo take care of their own franchise? Then we will never see Star Fox again? I mean that made no sense, sorry. Nintendo are very well capable of making a true DK game again, they just experimented with it and it all went wrong.

Plus Metroid was not alive for a long time, the first game after Super Metroid was Metrpoid Prime. Count the years and you will realize how dead Metroid was.

You kind of hurt your argument with the last statement there.... It took them buying a whole new studio for them to even try making a new metroid meaning no one at the time wanted to do even touch the series....I think this will happen to Donkey Kong just as well it take someone outside the main development teams to take a chance on it...

You're forgetting Metroid Fusion, an internally developed game that was underway at the same time as they assigned the newly acquired Retro Studios to it.

Retro was giving Metroid Prime first even before Metroid Fusion strated development this is easily to tell since were released at the same time and there is no way Metroid Fusion took as much of development time as Metroid prime.

You might be right. A quick hit on wiki says that Metroid Fusion (or what became Metroid Fusion) was first confirmed at E3 01, whereas the very beginnings of Metroid Prime was one of five project pitches made to Retro Studios very soon after they were acquired in 1999.

Of course, that's solid data on the very beginnings of the ideas for Metroid Prime, so we can't know when it was originally conceived to develop Fusion.

The idea for Metroid Fusion could have happen at any time,  it could been at exact time as Metroid Prime, before it, or thought up because of Metroid prime so I'll leave at that...

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

I came into a discussion about Zelda Wii being confirmed for 2010 which completes the 2010 Holy Trinity of Mario-Metroid-Zelda. The thread was taken off topic when it was suggested that Metroid not count because "Donkey Kong is bigger" when the Holy Trinity is about what games are coming out and not which dead franchises were at what point considered bigger so I responded by putting Metroid back in its rightful place as Other M is slated for this year and Donkey Kong...isn't, since it hasn't had a major release in nearly two generations.

Basically the thread did a 360 because I brought it back on track. =D

yes but these three franchise are what the harcore crowd wants more.if they release them all at 2010 what will they make to satisfy hardcore players the next year?

What makes you think the Wii will still be on the market next year? This suggests to me that Nintendo is trying to finish up with a bang, in order to prepare for the Wii 2 next year.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

DS2 in 2011?
Wii - console with the best 2010 exclusive games line-up, confirmed?

i agree that ds2 might come out for 2011

but wii having best exclusives for 2010, thats a joke right?

i may agree with you if your only talking about best year for wii games. But just because their will be a new zelda doesn't mean its going to be the best year of games for the wii.

also...yay for nintendo, for acually doing something to improve the system....hopefully it works and isnt a gimmic. then again.....

Zelda and MG2 is the only thing i'm looking forward to on the system so nintendo! dont screw it up!

What makes you think Wii is going to drop off of shelves in 2011? Even if Nintendo launched a Wii 2, Wii would still be on sale. Not to mention that several franchises are MIA - Starfox, F-Zero, Wave Race, etc. Even if we go by your logic, Nitnendo is going to want at least one big franchise to launch with the Wii 2 and with Mario, Zelda and Metroid coming out in 2010, there's no way in hell these teams are putting out a sequel on new hardware in 12 months or less.

I don't understand why so many of you say DK stomped Metroid.

DK was non-existant on NES and didn't become popular, again considering original arcade, until DKC. By then Metroid had a very successful Metroid and even better Super Metroid.

After DKC and DKC2 what else has ever been good? Nothing, and they weren't as good as Super Metroid. They sold more, but, that has more to do with the type of game than the game itself.

Then you have the Prime series which is phenomenal. It doesn't sell as well as pure FPS because most of that crowd just are not smart enough gamers to figure out the puzzles. They can only run and gun through simple paths that only require basic memorization and quick reactions. Where as Metroid Prime also requires a decent level of problem solving and patience.

This is why Zelda 3D games are more popular. They guide you/hold your hand more than the Prime games. Zelda is closer to an pure TPS than Metroid is to a FPS.

Other M is going to be that massive resurgent Metroid that NSMBWii is to Mario.

I think Other M will outsell Metroid Prime 3 because it seems to appeal to more players.
