Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I don't like Halo 3's online

If there was one thing that Halo did right it was the MP. It is very well put together, and works almost flawlessly. The campaign on the other hand.......

I agree with disolitude's post. I love the matchmaking.

I can also see your desire to have custom games that are browsable.

Halo3 MP is not bad, I prefer others like U2 but its not bad at all, play some of the other games online out there you may change your mind

So why don't you make friends?

I cannot believe I am hearing these things.

I have to say that Halo 3's online multiplayer is so incredibly polished that it's damn near criminal.

There isn't that much customizability. However, who cares when you're having fun that is so addictive it's similar to smoking crack?

Play custom maps with a 16 player party. Preferrably infection on a Helms Deep map.

Then you will see why Halo 3 online is absolutely awesome.

Forge exists for a reason.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I never understood that either to be honest. I mean... I want to play the game the way I want to play it. Maybe my friends aren't on, maybe they are studying for finals, maybe they are passed out and drunk. Whatever the reason I shouldn't have to make friends just to play a game the way I want it to be played. I hate the Wii online too, but at least you don't hear people going on about how it's amazing and stuff....

Edit: Forgot to mention my favorite console online game: UT3. Yeah the game is SHIT, however it does multiplayer flawalessly, or at least it's on the right track with all the mod support.

Custom games, man. Console games can learn a lot from PC games, like, you know, the ones that have been online for a decade. I put up with this because I have to, but everyone I know bitches about what the OP is about. "Why can't I play on the map I want to?" I think of it like removing the "Custom Game" from Warcraft 3, just imagine if they only offered the ladder system.

This seems to plague the most popular games, namely the ones I've played recently - Gears 2, Halo 3, and Call of Duty. Gears doesn't give you many options (crappy vote system), and forces you to play ranked mode, so you can't even play split screen with a friend unless they also have Live Gold (bullshit). Modern Warfare 2 has this awful leveling system which not only blocks you from using weapons you want to use, but leaves you with inferior perks / kill streak bonuses so you're at a disadvantage to those who spent more time on the game.

I haven't played Halo 3 enough, but it seems a lot like CoD in its setup. My friends and I played 4p split screen online (main reason I have Halo, who knows why it has no competition here), and half the time one of my friends were stuck on the other team. That was a waste of time, is there a way around this? Not to mention, half the time we were yelling at the crappy map selection...

Sometimes I just want to sit down and enjoy a few games, but these games simply don't allow it. There should be some mode for people that only care for the fun, not about the k/d ratio or some prestige icon or high number next to their name. The customer knows where the fun is at, just give us access to it already!

Lol.. It's funny you should say that, since Bungie actually helped Naughty Dog build the online component..

In any case, I think the matchmaking of Halo is fine. If you play online regularly, it won't take long before tons of people send you invites. You can always mess around with your maps with them. The way matchmaking is now, is the best way to keep things fair imo. No one knows which map and which mode they're gonna get, so they need to adapt all the time, instead of doing the same thing over and over..

That was old, the first time you used it.

Pixel Art can be fun.
