Monkey Island - worse, but I won't complain as the "last gen" game of my favourite franchise was from 2000 and nearly everyone had given up hope to ever see a new MI game
(and at least the IMO overrated Telltale adventure games put the genre back on the radar of the US audience - an audience which seems to be more reluctant to point & click adventure games these days than Japanese gamers to the 360).

(Point & Click) Adventure genre as a whole - much better than a few years ago mainly thanks to continental Europe and Japan; good to see the genre on every system this gen, not only PC.

The Legend of Zelda - no need to compare IMO; one of the very few franchises which had brilliant games in every gen.
(I discovered this outstanding franchise only 6 years ago on GC, which probably makes me less critical here than Zelda fans who grew up with the series).

Civilization - better; CIV IV > CIV III and CIV Revolution on DS is a very pleasant and welcome addition to the franchise.

Pro Evolution Soccer - too early to tell, there's still plenty of room for improvement.

GTA4 was a complete pile of....

Since mine is JRPG it's much much much much much worse.

Mario = Going better and better

Zelda = too many portable tittles. I want the Wii version now!

Resident Evil= cool, but not a huge improvement like the last gen.

Metroid= Haven't played Prime 3, but im hyped for Other M

from last gen my fav game was GTA
this gen its a load of rubbish! GTA4 was so bad, San Andreas will always be king of the GTAs

this gen my fave games are: LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2!

hoping to add: GT5, The Last Guardian, God of War 3, Modnation Racers... to that list by years end...

All the hate towards GTA4 in this thread makes fazz happy.

Final Fantasy: Worse.

Castlevania: Better. I like the GBA games but Order of Ecclesia is my favorite since SotN. (I Hate 3D castlevanias)

Golden Sun:

Fire Emblem: I guess better. It's hard to decide since my favorites are Radiant Dawn and Blazing Sword.

Zelda: Worse. TWW and TP >>> PH (Still waiting for my copy of Spirit Tracks)

MGS - Yes. Sure, MGS4 is good, but it's no MGS3.

FF - We shall see in March. I'm gonna guess better...
