The Xbox was ranked No. 12.'' http://www.informationweek.com/management/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=202400758 |
I know I have had this conversation time and time again with PS3 fans, but surveys (either famitsu's most wanted or consumer surveys) do not reflect the buying habits of people in general. Wanting a HDTV (or any reported item) and wanting an XBox 360 are not mutually exclusive categories, and at the same time wanting an item and receiving an item are two very different things.
At the same time a phone survey certainly does not reflect the desires of a household in general; it is likely that the parents in a family are far more likely to respond to the survey and, while their children may really want (and be likely to receive) a XBox 360 or Wii, the parents may be far more likely to respond with what they want (an HDTV) regardless of whether they have any intention of buying it.
Basically, the fact that they all placed on the list is a good indicator of reasonable sales but unless one of them rated dramatically higher than the others the rankings are meaningless.
