Personally, I would argue that you were way (WAY) too young to critically evaluate the SNES and Genesis being that you would have been too young to comprehend most of the games when they were released.
Beyond that, Sega made many awful mistakes which were far worse than anything Nintendo ever did which is why they left the console market. The Sega CD was an unnecessary add-on which was poorly supported, which saw its life ended by the release of the 32x which was an unnecessary add-on that was poorly supported, and that was followed by the Sega Saturn which was expensive, poorly supported and died early from lack of support. By the time the Dreamcast was released no one would touch another Sega product.
